bios rev A00 -totally out of date?

Recommended Posts

i picked up this dfi board in hong kong (it was very hard to find tho) and in an effort to try and solve my problems i thought maybe a bios update would do the trick -i checked the sticker just near the printer port and it said

CK804A-000 R.A00

what does this mean -is it a totally out of date bios? looking at the dfi bios page -i cant seem to decide whether i need to download all of the bios updates or just the latest one....

hehe. thx for that angry_games -great i just once again announced my total newbness to the world. just that second i happened to notice that too, sorry for my total stupidity. my bios is 21-06-05.

just wondering tho, is an A00 board revision bad? i have a feeling it must be one of the initial releases. could and probably wrong though...

lol

there's a lot of people (know-it-alls) that claim one revision is better than another but I think they are all full of stink personally (since I have a PR32 Pre-production, A00, A01, A02, AA0, and AB0 revisions and all overclock the same as far as I can tell and all work just fine for me)

are you sure about the 6/21/2005 BIOS? It should be 6/23/2005...

oops, just noticed that you have the INFINITY version lol

now, that being said, I always have to tell people:

if a newer bios does not specifically address a specific issue you are having problems with, then there is no need to flash a bios.

well i downloaded t-mod's bios update cd v6.5 and updated my bios to the latest, to be on the safe side. i looked at the number of fixes on the dfi website and it seemed to be a good bet to flash the bios.

angry_games -would you mind looking at my other post regarding my internet issues? it kept crapping out on me, with the network connection icon in the taskbar freezing. then it would randomly crash programs, and once windows with bsod 'machine_check_exception' error. now i cant even logon to my isp at all -it just hangs at the connecting through WAN miniport screen....and nor can i uninstall the nforce system drivers.

i just burned a cd with the latest nforce4 system drivers from the nvidia website in the hopes of updating the system drivers -but now it cant read the cd in explorer...have i royally f8cked this up somehow?

xp takes ages to restart or shutdown -sometimes i have to resort to resetting it or switching it off.

no irq conflicts in device manager, using the onboard nforce networking controller, and so far, the system drivers that came with the board. argghh

2x512mb corsair twinxlpt1024 pc3200 ddr400 2-2-2-5

I bet if you went to 2-3-2-5, or 2-3-3-6, your problems would probably clear up

or possibly 2.5-2-2-5, or 2.5-3-3-6

there's something about Corsair RAM that is sometimes funny on our boards...best is to check the Stock Speed Database section as there is a Corsair thread in there where i list Stock settings for 5 or 6 different Corsair kits...and yours might be one of them.

if not, you should list to me the EXACT model # etc like I show in the pictures in that thread and I will request Corsair to ship me some or have their techs setup an Infinity SLI NF4 board with your exact memory.

it could possibly be something other than memory....but start there first

it seems to be a little more stable -but still it couldnt read a new session on a multisession dvd that i burned on my inspiron.

still no internet either. not a fault of my modem as i'm currently on it with my laptop. i tried setting up a new connection as well (its worked in the past) but nada. checked the device manager and it says there are no conflicts. bizaarre.

not getting the random lockups tho -just this onboard nforce networking problem now...

if updating the system drivers to 6.70 doesnt fix it -i'll take out the ram modules and let you know -i'll have to do it later tonight tho as i have to get to work pretty soon.

angry_games> not sure if i've done the dram settings correctly. before i only remember having to change 4 things, now as you know in the genie bios, there are a million more options to change:

CAS Latency Control (Tcl)

RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd)

Min RAS# active time (Tras)

Row precharge time (Trp)

Row Cycle time (Trc)

Row refresh cyc time (Trfc)

Row to Row delay (Trrd)

Write recovery time (Twr)

Write to Read delay (Twtr)

Read to Write delay (Trwt)

(i pasted those from that stock speed settings -i'm assuming the lanparty & infinity boards use the exact same genie bios?
