catkicker Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I have been using a firewall program from etrust, it was causing some problems so I'm looking around No norton this time around. Zonealarm I'm familiar with and the free version I used awhile back worked fine might go for the zonealarm package. I wondered if anyone is familiar with Lavasoft firewall program, I use lavasoft adaware and I like it So anyone use lavasoft firewall? inquisitor Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I used to use Zone alarm, its a good program. I am thinking of going back to that as I'm not that happy using Symantec Friewall, its IDS is not upto much to say the least
Guest Milkshake Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I'd personally get a hardware firewall, much safer and efficient than a software firewall.
inquisitor Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 I'd personally get a hardware firewall, much safer and efficient than a software firewall. The Hardware Fiewall is deffo the best one to get, but the only downside is that its around 10 times more expensive than the software version

Guest SuppA-SnipA Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Is it really? well i use zone alarm, i like it, easy to use gui, and not a resource hog like others *cough symantec cough* and it doesnt kill to have a good router, if i remember right, the cisco based ones
lowboy Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Nvidia active armor is crap, caused way to many problems for people.
Lesaonar Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Considering ZoneAlarm has recently been found to be nothing more than another type of spyware, I'd suggest finding another software firewall. Zonelabs own workaround to the supposed 'bug' cripples a good portion of the actual product. It's unfortunate that since Zonelabs was bought out this type of behaviour/coding is implemented in something that is supposed to keep ones information safe. That is no longer the case so stear clear of it. Personally I use Tiny Personal Firewall on one rig and the security software/firewall provided by my ISP on the rig in my sig. Guest Milkshake Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Best software firewall I've used IMHO is Sygate Personal Firewall, worked very smoothly.
Cooler Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 nvidia's ActiveArmour on nforce4 chips are pretty good they are hardware, no? IMO, they're pseudo hardware only. Still, better than False Al... erm, "Zone Alarm". My personal favorite would be "Sygate Personal Firewall Pro"... if I would use any software firewall.
