knifemyglitter Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I just upgraded from an MSI K8n Neo4 SLI board which could detect my floppy in the windows install, but this one cant for some reason. Is there a way to set it up in the bios that i dont know about? I dont own a "real" floppy drive because theyre so ancient, but if someone could help me out ASAP, it be much appricated. Im new to the forums here and i hope to learn a lot in a short amount of time. Thanks.

monsterzero Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I use an NEC USB floppy that is recognized but XP install will not use it for loading raid drvers no matter what. I had to hook up a normal floppy to do it. I use Nlite now to make a slipstream disc so it doesn't matter. You might want to look into it. http://www.nliteos.com
knifemyglitter Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 thanks, but thats seems kind of like a big pain in the butt. theres no bios setting to make the floppy read in windows install? i could do it with the MSI board, WTF!!! MSI SUCKS!
joshuapurcell Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Is getting the Expert board BIOS to recognize a USB floppy device at startup something that could be added through a DFI or third-party BIOS update? I'm not saying that it doesn't work under certain situations already since I haven't tested it. I'm under the impression that the BIOS has to know to look for USB devices and load their drivers as needed, and if this isn't a feature of the Expert board then it would be nice if it could be added at some point... I'm just not sure if it is possible.

Angry_Games Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 that dude with teh hockey picture is going to try using a laptop USB floppy to install RAID drivers and if not then I'll ask the HQ to take a look at maybe altering the bios a little... knifemyglitter Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 bro youre awesome. anyway, thats what im doing now, trying to use a toshiba USB floppy to load them up. after i hit f6, it just says, please insert disk into drive A:...and then nothing, so i have to quit it. i have the FDD disable in the bios, tried it with it enabled, tried boot floppy seek...all no dice. I WANT THIS SWEET BOARD UP AND RUNNING! also, i hope this isnt going to be a big problem later, but im using an ASPIRE case w/ a 500watt aspire PSU....yeah i know its crappy, but hey, it came with it and works fine. I bought a 20-24 pin adaptor, and a 4-8 pin adaptor as well so i could have all the nice connectors, but is that going to be a big factor when OC'ing? i guess ill find out, but i dont plan on running SLI so im hoping it will be ok. my target OC is 2.7ghz, i had 2.6ghz on my MSI, and that thing was crap. No the Aspire can drive you mad lockups BSOD strange computer turn offs and can kill video card MB etc if it gets overloded. Is the floppy light on all the time? Try flipping the connector the other way.
