unclepuncle Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hi - I'm trying to overclock a Winchester 3000+ with an Asus A8N SLI (Bios 1001) and 2x512mb Corsiar XMXPROLL memory, Antec Neopower 480w At default settings I can run cpu and memory (1:1) at 215fsb with no stability problems. Above this I think the memory starts getting stressed. Anyway I read all the guides and firstly set my memory divider to 200mhz (1:2 ratio I believe) so that the memory wasn't holding me back and have been able to get the processor to 8 x 300fsb or 9 x 270fsb with no stability issues at all. I then tried to get the memory running faster and have tried changing the divider to 266mhz (2:3 ratio?) which at 300fsb would mean the memory is runnig at just under 200mhz which should be perfect. However I cant get the system to post at all, it just keeps rebooting. I've also tried setting the fsb to 250 and 240 but it just won't post unless the memory divider is at 200mhz. Any ideas? MenionLeah Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Try loosening up the RAM timings and increasing the vdimm slightly. By the by, why are you posting in DFI forums with an Asus? Oh, actually, I take that back, I've had several Asus boards and I've tried their website, nevermind.
stujeffrey Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Try loosen timings and 2T for added stability
unclepuncle Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I do have a DFI Ultra board in my home PC, the Asus is in my office PC (which I use for playing Counterstrike whenever the boss goes out) . I have tried changing timings, voltages and have set it to 2T timings but it makes no difference. I don't get why I would need to change any timings or voltages with the memory running on a divider. The memory definitley runs perfectly at 215fsb at 1:1 at stock timings and voltage, so if I try to run the fsb at say 270 with a divider of 2:3 then the memory should only be running at 180 which is well below it's maximum. I think Imight just sell the Asus board and get another DFI and see if that helps. Could it possibly be the bios as it has never been flashed and is showing as version 1001. Guest FZ1 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 If you run the memory below the max, you may need to lower the voltage a bit.
