craigj Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hi. Been running my setup for several months now with no real problems. Today I recieved my new 300GB Seagate Barracuda (S-ATA). I plugged it in (Note: IBM P-ATA drive is still attached to IDE1 with jumpers set to primary) and fired up the system. However, the BIOS is not recognizing the drive. I've double checked all the power and data cable connections and I've tried booting without the P-ATA drive plugged in. Any suggestions? Trebaruna Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Kind of obvious but have you checked the SATA setting in the BIOS?
ICON57 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 did you load you sata drivers from your floppy when you originally installed the os? you know....pressing f6 during install? have you looked in your bios to make sure everything is set correctly? i would use the new 300gb hd, and do a fresh install, make a 20 or 30 gb partition for windoze, and leave the remainder of space for all your other files, and than transfer your files from the 80gb hd, and than wipe it clean, and use it as a back up drive only...imho
craigj Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I'm a twat. Sorry for wasting your time there guys - just after posting I remembered that I'd disabled the S-ATA in the BIOS 'cause I wasn't using it previously. All is well, now. Cheers for the fast replies, anyway.
hmf Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 C'mon..don't confuse craig...no Sata drivers are necessary when installing windows. F6 is only if you are running an array. If you want Sata drivers install them with the nvidia storage drivers when installing nvidia chipset drivers. Like Treb said most obvious is your bios settings. Enable all four sata ports. Sometimes bios sees ports differently than they are numbered on your board.
