bozotheclown Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hi all, I tried a mod for my X2 4400+ stock heatpipe cooler. Got myself: a Fan adapter to fit a 120mm fan on a 80mm cooler http://shop.freezinghardware.nl/index.asp?...003&ItemID=1847 And : a 120mm fan, Papst 4412F/2GLL http://shop.freezinghardware.nl/index.asp?...0003&ItemID=386 The fan does 1600rpm max and 94 m³/h / 55,3 CFM air displacement. Idle the temp is the same as with the original 80mm fan, at full load the temp with the 120mm Pabst(blow into the cooler) is 55celcius instead of 51celcius with the oroginal 80mm fan. Huh? I was expecting to maybe lower the temp by 1 or 2 degrees but I was not so lucky. Maybe time to get an xp120? would that do better with the same fan? Does anyone here have experience with the XP120 and an OCd X2? What's the dual prime full load temp in your case? And what are the specs of your oc? Meltdown Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I can't comment on the effectiveness but i'd recommend you get the SI-120 as the XP-120 blocks the first PCIex slot
black_dought Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I recommend the SI-120 as well. Looks like your case is big enough, and it does the job wonderfully, however, if your lookin to see some major differences, I would also invest in a Panoflo 120mm fan. Or one that just pushes out some more CFM. Lots of 80 mm fans can push out 50CFM. Just a thought. Hope this helps: http://www.thermalright.com/product_default.htm Yep, also that XP would definitely block some of your ports. bozotheclown Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I'd like a Panaflow fan (a bit less noise than the panaflow would be great) but I can't find it here, that's why I got what I percieved as a good second. THunDA Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 bozotheclown.. The reason it didnt help temps is because the stock cooler was not designed to work with such a large fan.. A 120mm fan has a very large dead spot in the middle of the fan from the hub and if the sink isnt made to work with it then you get the results you have,.,

I have it on my backup rig running a DC opty @1.55v and my load temps are 44c with the Panaflo L1A fan on it on full speed. DTA2008 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 SI-120 is great with a panflow on it. my fan dosent even turn at an idle(22) and at a load the most i will see is 36 and thats with 1.65 vcore @2.6 ghz
bozotheclown Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 crap, I could have concluded that myself, I think you're dead on it (banging my own forehead;) ) EDIT OLD I've ordered an si120 and that should do it I guess. EDIT NEW I've changed my order to a Scythe Ninja thanks for the input people, I feel genuanly stupid right now but that will blow over:) bozotheclown.. blazer666_uk Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I just invested in a GIGABYTE water cooling Kit. it was 70 pounds and simple to fit- v quiet and amazingly my CPU temp at full load (SETI Bonic running 24/7) is 36c before this kit it was running at 56c on Full load. All i need to do know is figure how to overclock my system further than 222 FSB !
jumpman Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 maybe the fan adapter is not well built. check that deadspot in the middle...if you got time...make your own adapter made out of cardboard just for test. if it works better...then the problem is the fan adapter. bozotheclown Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 I got my cpu temp to drop 4degrees by putting LDT and NF4 voltages to default in combination with setting my ram timings to default (3-3-3-8 instead of 2.5-3-2-6) ans the actual speed of the ram (checked in Everest Home 2.20 has not dropped, the latency has dropped a little bit)
