deeselcyde Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I got this system i have now, last august....that was pretty close to when the venice and san diego cores were pretty fresh on the market. I didn't do much research, and i went with the 3800 venice. I thought i was going to be able to get up to about 2900Mhz, but i was wrong. I can only get this thing stable just a tad over 2700Mhz with my SLI-DR. And i have read once that someone with my board and my chip has gotten stable over 2800Mhz. My step father just got the 3800X2, and he absolutely loves it, he claims that if i got that he could get that up to 2800Mhz(NOTE:3800 stock is 2.4/3800X2 stock is 2.0) So he was claiming a pretty big overclock. He has seen people with the 3800X2 and my board get up that high. I like to game(FEAR, BF2), and he was hinting at the 4000 single saying that it is pretty superior in games. I would think that the 3800X2 would be better because of the 2 cores. Plus the 4000 is 23 dollars more than the 3800X2 on Newegg. With my 7800 gt, I am only getting 79,000 on Aquamark. I am a bit dissapointed at that. What would you guys do? Upgrade? If so, to what? Or just keep it here for now?
-CsA-TAZ Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hmm, is the AM3 score with ur OC? i get about 80,000 stock and 90,000 with OC @ 2.750MHz, if I use only 1 gig of ram with 2.2.2.6 1T timings i get a little more, not alot though!, dont know what ur GT is clocked @ but mine is 450/1050! P.S i would not upgade yet, single core is still best with most games and will be for another 12 months, when more games come out with X2 and SLi in mind then thats when i will upgrade! LOL not when benching M8 as the is no sound! but yes does help a little in the real world, so do all the other X-fi cards too, only the FPS version has it own ram and has a higher MHz cpu thing i think
