Bad ram?

Recommended Posts

I have had 1GB (2x512MB) of Corsair PC 3200 XMS series ram. It has run great forever and always passed memtest. Now I upgraded to 2GB (2x1GB) of Corsair PC 3500LL Pro series ram. After installing it, I was playing various games and my pc kept crashing. So this morning before I went to school, I ran memtest, then when I came home it said it has 20 errors. It came as a 2GB kit, so 1) is it most definitly bad? and 2) if it is, should i send back teh entire kit? Thanks

The ram runs fine by themselves, no errors in memtest and they do what they should do without any hiccups. Together in slots 1 and 3 they get errors. I have heard on here to always put them in the orange slots, 2 and 4. Are slots 1 and 3 defective or something? What is wrong with them? I cannot put them in 2 and 4 because the HSF is so big it takes up slot4 so i cannot fit the ram in there. Any suggestions?

Most likely memory settings and yellow slots. May try to set memory timings using yellow slot and may never work in them. If fails put stock HS on and try the orange slots. At this point RMA on any thing might not help until you can trouble shoot the problem.Remember memtest shows very little and just cause they won't run dual channel with default settings doesn't mean ram is bad.

I contacted Corsair directly and they told me the correct timings/voltage to run. They also confirmed (with memtest) that neither of the ram modules are bad and that is has something to do with the motherboard, and said to definitly try them in slots 2 and 4 because they have had prior complaints on the DFI boards that 1,3 dont work properly and 2 and 4 do. Never had problems running my old ram on 2 and 4 but they were shorter so they fit fine on slot 4. Guess I gotta take cooler off what a pain in the butt. Just curious why 1 and 3 dont work properly. Is there some special settings or something, or just manufactured improperly? Also, anyone have the thermalright xp running on the expert board? If so, will the ram fit in there, because maybe I will just buy a new HSF if thats what it takes. Thanks
