melmac Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Hi All I just recently obtained my new motherboard and I am really looking forward to getting deeper into the DFI world. After checking the bios the amount of options is staggering!! I was hoping that I could use my existing RAID 0 setup with the new motherboard. Hoping I would not have to reinstall (I know it is recommended!) Now I setup up everything and plugged it all in and enabled raid on my two sata drives which were installed on SATA 1 and SATA 2. I started the computer and used pressed F10 to enter the raid configuration screen. I selected the two drives and set them as araid 0 array. It asked me did I want to delete the data, I said no. Then I made it bootable. When I rebooted the system, I made sure my SATA array drive was the 1st boot device. But it would not boot. It just kept asking me to insert a boot disk. I moved the array back to my old computer and it worked fine there. SHould I install something on the array before I install it in my new system? IS there something I am not doing? or is this just not possible. Any help greatly appreciated!! Thanks
logan Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 First you need to make sure you've enabled the sata channels that you're wanting to use, and are you going to be running this raid off the nforce sata or the sil controller, as this will affect what raid drivers you have to install. If you want to have the sata2 speed it has to be off the nforce controller, in which case you need to load the raid drivers that should've came on a floppy with the mobo. melmac Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Yeap, as you can see from my post, I enabled the two channels that my drives are plugged in to. I am using the nforce sata controller. So If I install the nforce sata drivers from the floppy onto the array before moving the array to the dfi motherboard it should work ok? I installed the drivers by just right clicking on the nvraid.inf and selecting install.

melmac Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Thanks thespin for the guide, but I have setup the raid exactly as said on the guide you sent me. The only thing I didn't do was clear the disk. I want to be able to boot into the windows XP build that is already on the array, without having to wipe the array. Can this be done?? lowboy Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Was your old mobo NF chipset and were you using nvidia raid .
melmac Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 No, my old motherboard was via chipset, using the VIA sata controller. Does this mean it isn't possible?
red930 Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 It might be possible, but you're gonna have all kinds of problems in windows anyways since drivers are gonna be different. It is NEVER recommended to try to boot on a pre-existing OS with a new motherboard, certinaly not if the mobo is entirely different. Your best bet is to boot on your old system and save whatever you absolutely need then format and reinstall.

Guest Scarface Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 what was your last mobo? most likely you'll have to reformat.
