Tmods CD6.5

Recommended Posts

Yes, like a bad dream, I'm back.

And with plenty more noob questions.

I have dl Tmods CD6.5 and (presumably) burned a good ISO image to a cd.

I did checksum after extraction and it was correct.

thespin advised to load optimized defaults. Set boot order

Disable 'CNQ', which I assume is Cool 'N' Quiet?

Disable Cpu throttling.

(these two instructions are so the is no interruption of processor operation during the flash process, even if things get a bit hot?)

I believe this Samsung tccd memory uses 2.6v (I see 2.61 in pchealth)

He says run Memtest and Checktest #5, 25 times. You mean after I've booted to the cd, right? Using the utility on there?

And, after the flash, what? I'll be prompted to do power/cmos thing? Or do I try to catch it on a restart?

And after 'load optimized defaults', which I will do at boot after power/cmos thing, I'll be prompted to 'save to all 4 'cmos reloaded banks'?'

If I'm missing something don't be shy about saying so, I'll appreciate it.

A couple other things.

After that crap yesterday with the floppies, I have removed the drive and cable completelyand disabled the controller. When I loaded optimized defaults I saw it had turned that back on and had even listed a floppy in the first bios page.

Do I need to leave all the controllers enabled? Do I need to put the floppy back?

Since a failure while flashing may require reprogramming your cmos chip by taking it out and using another computer to do it, the goal is to have a stable system before trying to flash it.

To that end, the goal is to have your settings at stock values (see the post you refer to), and ensure your memory is ok by testing.

When you have a stable system, you can execute your flash after booting from Tmod's CD using the appropriate bios version for your motherboard.

After a successful flash, you should then do another cmos reset, another 'load optimized', etc and save those new stock settings to the four cmos save banks in 'cmos reloaded'. Cmos Reloaded is an option on your bios setup menu.

You know, just as an observation, that none of these precautions that you are advising, and that I am most certainly going to follow, are referred to at all on the DFI download bios site. Why is that, I wonder. Don't they cause un-necessary problems for their customers, and thusly themselves? I must say that I'm not impressed with the quality of DFI's documentation, whether site or manual. I guess that because these are what might be termed enthusiast motherboards that their users will be smart enough to find there way here.

I hate to say it, but I don't see any 'Cmos reloaded' entry anywhere. Will it appear after the flash? Or is it an option when one 'saves and exits'.

Also, you used the word 'another' cmos reset, above. That implies more than one, the one I should do after the flash. Do I need to do it at another time? Before the flash? We are talking about moving the jumper, removing the battery, and unplugging the machine, right? And letting it sit like that for a bit.
