Postal Dude Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Ok i kno these things are said to run really hot but this kinda takes the biscuit. Fair play im runnin pretty pooey cooling but its a bit silly. At stock speed and stock volts. My 146 is idling at 38C with a thermaltake bigwater kit. (insert flaming here) Iv literally just installed it so i kno it can take time to bed in and stuff. But thats plain ridiculous. I used to get 28c idles on my 3200+. Apart from getting a new kit or whatever else productive anyone has to say. Is there any way to improve these temps?
Burky Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Try refitting your heat sink, and make sure you've used enough thermal paste. What temps does it hit at stock voltage? I guess there's a chance that the ihs isn't properly fixed on maybe...
EdLSmith Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I had problem with restricted water flow and with AS application(Too much). I'm OC'd to 3.11 GB on my 146 and Small ffts in Prime and I'm hitting 46C. Aren't these Optys great. I haven't run into any stability problem yet and it doesn't seem that I've hit max on this one. When I run Blend my temps stay in 30's. My Idle at stock is 24C and load at stock is 33C. I have Vcore at 1.54 now and may have to push it again. I believe the reccommendation is to jump the power to run only the cooling system for 24 hours before you crank up the CPU. I know you have gotten rid of all the air(I hope). What are you cooling besides the CPU. Another problem area is Room Ambient temp and Case Ambient. At night my room ambient runs 23C and then my CPU is really good. Which water block are you using. The only temp to watch is load temp. The others will tell you more or less where your problem may be.
DilipH Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 i have an opty 146 which idles at 38oC and when running prime it fluctuates between 41 and 58 in like seconds??? I dont trust the temperature diode! 38oC seems right for an Opty but it shouldn't fluctuate from 41 to 50 something (both directions)!!!! I have no other way of actually testing the temps but I bet if there was a way of attaching a themometre it would read probably high 30's to early 40's when 100% usage. Im on air... so i would guess that your temps would be early 30's on idle. But this is assuming im right and you have attached your rig up correctly etc etc
bwohl Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I've got a Big Water and almost to my 30 day stock break-in period for this 165 (Just a superstitious thing). I also have the VGA block on a GTO2...so my temps will be a little hotter I would think... I'll give her a whirl this weekend.
