snugglealufacus Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 i hate heat, and most of the things in my case heat up. my biggest worrys are my chipset and vid card. the chipset idles at 47 and can reach almost 60 on load, and the vid card will also idle at 47, and loads range from 55-65 depending on game. now, before i installed this zalman VF-700CU, my vid card temps were around 47 for idle and load. i would like to get some cool fresh air into those two fans so i was thinking of taking off the two backplates that are under my GPU to let air in, but i doubt it would be enough or noticeable. anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to cool those two down? thanks in advance. lil info... -using AS5 thermal on everything in system. it has been in there since the 18th, so still curing (i heard the temps go down later after curing is done, but mine are going up!) -have the zalman VF-700CU fan on the GPU, and the stock HS/Fan on the chipset. -all the fans in the bois are set to "full off" at 25c and "full on" at 55c. -when playing FEAR, the chipset fan whines like a siren, going from 7000rpm down to 4000 rpm and then back up. -CPU idles at 38c, loads around 42-44c. -PWMIC idles at 44c, loads can reach 50c at times. -HD idles at 31c, loads at 33-34c
divided Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 65 is NOT too hot at all. from what i hear most gpus are rated upwards of 100c. so i wouldnt worry about 65. anyway perhaps you applied too much as5? thats really the only reason why temps would rise. snugglealufacus Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 no..i used a ketchain card and spread it as thin as i could. i also made sure that the CPU and heatsink had a good secure connection. i followed AG's guide to applying the AS5 on the chipset and used that on all of the connections. http://www.angrygames.com/chipset_clean-1.htm <--link to the guide (sorry i suck at HTML)
Guest Milkshake Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Ya my 7800gt used to get up to 70C before zalman vf700-cu, now it gets to 65C max and idle at 39-42C. I have reseated it many times, using less and more as5 with no help at all so im not sure if the thermal paste would make that much difference. I've found that the reason is probably because its hard to get air to flow down by where the vid card is, just make sure you get some air flow down there. But like already stated 65 is nothing, the core slowdown is at 115! I'd think anything over 80 you should think about better cooling. Set all your fans to full on at anything above 25C
snugglealufacus Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 why should i set them to full above 25c? my room stays around 21-22c (70-72f) so i know it will be impossible for me to get my temps that low unless i hand the comp out the window :-P. now would a different case solve this problem? since it is my first build i did not really think that the case mattered at all torwards temps just looks. ive heard that the p-180 is good but thats freaken expensive. and is there anything else that i can do to cool down those two? cost out of the picture, btw. i have heard that they make HS/Fan combo's for the chipset, but all the ones that i saw were LED fans and i like a 'sleeper' case. plus, after seeing the rise in temps from stock cooling to this zalman im not too sure that a new fan will help. Because when it gets above 25C it will turn the fan on. There is no reason not to do it, Especially if your worried about temps. lol. Your worried about the temps and you keep it at 55...it just doesnt make sence.
snugglealufacus Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 no no. the turn OFF temp is 25, the full ON temp is 55..so if my chipset is at 23c, the fan will be at 0 rpm, and if the chipset it at 62c, the fan will be at 7000rpm or whatever the max rated rpm is for the thing. snugglealufacus Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 yeah, i have 3 case fans, 80mm and they are brush fans, not bearing, so they are loud, and my CPU fan is loud..they are all unbearable
