angryoaf Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Hi, Im trying my hand at building an PC to OC later. Right now Im using the Zalman cooling fan listed in my signature, but I was wondering it someone could give a couple of recomendations for good Air and Liquid OC cooling systems. Thanks in advance, Larry
lowboy Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Very first thing would be get another PSU one off the Alist as the one your using is of very poor quality.
angryoaf Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Oh good, thanks for the heads up. Ive heard that people have problems with it crapping out and such but I didnt want to make a huge investment on a PSU which I would have to replace for a higher quality later. lowboy Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 If components not purchased yet I would suggest 2x1gb memory and not 4X512.Members having good luck with Gskill pc4000 at $197.00 for 2X1gb and the best power supply that you can afford as it is the heart of your system. angryoaf Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 unfortunately I didn already get the sticks of RAM. I could use those sticks to upgrade my older rig so thats not really an issue. Like I said, this is my first build, and I welcome any and all suggestions.
BlueOval Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 If this will be your first build and you've never overclocked before, I would suggest that you google for how to cool your system on air first. There's no real 'air cooling system' to recommend. There's lot's more to cooling your system than a simple HSF recommendation. Go to several forums besides this one and see what has worked for others, what others are saying as regards to negative vs positive case pressure systems, how to cool your RAM, etc. Liquid cooling on the other hand is relatively simple to recommend a decent system, however I'm not the person to do that. Hopefully someone will pop in here who has extensive experience with water. Good luck and have fun with your build.
Burky Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 IF you have the money go for watercooling definately. Quieter and cooler, and you can get ok kits for $100+. The other good thing is it is an investment. After this pc, you keep the pump, resevoir and radiator, and you just need to buy a new waterblock for your cpu, which costs no more than a normal HS does. So in the long run it won't cost you a lot more. This is my first build with watercooling, so you should still listen to someone elses opinion first on that matter. angryoaf Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Thanks for all your great suggestions. Burky: I will move up to water eventually but being a total newbie... I want to ease in slowly lol. Knowing me, I'll over look something and have water gushing all over the place -_-; What you said about the reservoir and radiator is something I didnt think of.
