OS re-install sequence

Recommended Posts

I'm formatting and re-installing my OS later. But before I do, what about things like my nForce chipset drivers, DirectX, video and sound card drivers, is there a sequence before or after OS install that I need to follow? Thanks

Mike

I do my reinstalls as follows:

1) Load WinXP SP2 with integrated RAID Drivers

2) Install Reference Marvell Yukon Driver

3) Download all Windows Updates; Multiple Reboots

4) Load nForce Chipset Drivers sans nVidia Firewall; Reboot

5) Load Forceware Video Drivers; Reboot

6) Load AMD CPU Driver; Reboot

7) Load remaining drivers; Reboot

8) Tweak Windows to my liking

9) Load all my software

Posted by Angry, thanks.

Basic order of loading software on fresh/new install:

1. chipset drivers - Intel boards, 5.10 Nvidia NF2/NF3 chipset drivers for WinXP or 6.53 NForce4 Standalone Drivers for NF4 boards for 2k/XP

2. Windows 2000/XP Critical updates (I suggest leaving Automatic Updates ENABLED)

3. Video Card Drivers (ATI / NVidia etc)

4. Audio card drivers/periphial drivers (printers, scanners etc)

5. Windows update for driver updates/non-criticals like WinMedia9 etc

6. Anti-Virus and other software

7. remember to CHECK FOR UPDATES WEEKLY! Windowsupdate, Norton/McAffee anti-virus, etc.

It isn't required but the general consensus on the net is that is helps game performance issues when running on X2 dual core processors which is why I install it.

I don't think installing the driver will hurt anything.

The CPU drivers seems to have had no effect on my overclocking ability.

"AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions Version (exe) 1.2.2.1 - Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for installation. Maybe I'm not understanding it, but by the description it changes clock speeds and such like Cool&Quite does?
