Guest jivetrky Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I cannot get my expert board to boot with my Enermax Liberty 620W But I am typing now on that system by powering it with a Coolermaster 430W Extreme Power PSU This PSU only uses a 4-Pin 12V and I do not have the Floppy connector attached to the board. I tried the Enermax with all three power connections (24 pin, 8 pin EPS, 4 pin Floppy) and it will not boot. When I hook it up and plug it in, the standby light DOES light. When I hit the power switch, the 2 case fans which are connected to the MB headers and the PSU fan all fire up for a breif second (maybe even less) and the 4LED diagnostic LEDs breifly flash (the first one only I believe) and a red LED at the top of the board breifly flashes, and then it shuts off and the standby power LED comes back on. The CPU fan never starts during this. The Enermax PSU does work just fine in 2 other systems so I wouldn't think it is that. I have tried clearing the CMOS, I'm not sure what else to do here. I've got my other 7800 GTX sitting in an anti-static bag because I don't think the 430W would power it....but I want to get this thing running! Please let me know if there is anything else I can try, or if there is a potential problem with the board. Do I need to contact DFI directly, or is this the official support they use? applejuice Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 There is something very strange going on with the Liberty and the Expert. Some people have no problems while others have serious boot problems. I was actually going to change from this Enermax Noisetaker (which works flawlessly) to the Liberty for its superior cable management and sleeving, but I am having serious second thoughts after reading through the past threads on the topic. Since the Liberty PSU gets very good reviews online, I would have to blame the finicky SLI-DR Expert. It's picky about what power supplies it works with. Based on its stated specs, the Liberty ELT620AWT meets the requirements of the Expert, so it's a bit of a mystery.
red930 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 @jivetrky Hook up your Liberty and please try this. ------ Remove the power from the PSU by unplugging it or using the main power switch. Press the Power button on the case or motherboard. Press and hold the Reset button on the case or motherboard then apply power to the PSU by plugging it in or using the main power switch. Release the Reset button. Press the Power button on the case or motherboard. ------ Please post back with your results.

Yeah...I really wish I would have been able to read about these problems BEFORE I got the PSU....now I'll probably have to send it back to ZipZoomFly and pay a 20% restock fee. It's so strange that it has problems with this specific PSU.

I even tried clearing CMOS (the way I read in a sticky) But I had no luck...still the exact same problem....The 1st Debug LED flashes as the board tries to boot...the standby LED turns off...and the LED at the top of the board comes on....all for a breif second and then turns off....then tries for a second time...and then stops. I have 2 case fans plugged into 2 of the headers (the ones at the bottom of the board) those breifly recieve power as the board tries to boot. I tried unhooking those and it did the same thing. The CPU fan or Chipset fan never power. I think I'm just going to eat the cost of restocking fees and send this PSU back... What would be a great (problem free) alternative PSU? I plan on OC'ing my CPU to about 2.8Ghz ...and in March I will be upgrading my vid cards to whatever is biggest and best at that time (eVGA's step-up program)...and then watercooling and OCing those as well. It seems that OCZ powerstreams are popular with DFI owners ....would the 520W or the 600W be better for me?

harveyjoseph Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 great choice, this is simply the best power supply i have ever owned. I will second that. I owned a PCToy 520W prior and I think that the OZC is much more stable. And it looks nice too!
