need more help building PC..

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I need your help to finish the PC I'm buildiing now..

I used ed_jacobson procedure to build it: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=49

I did my best to fallow step by stef, but some things I don't understand...will tell you what parts in a moment...

I installed the CD WR, the hard Disk and now I'm trying to load window XP Pro.

but the PC boot to a point where it says:

Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter

1- what am I doing wrong?

My Bios is pretty much identical as Angry_Games' bios on the site

http://www.angrygames.com/nf4-bios1.htm

except that I have different hardware makes, so the names are different on my CMos feature BIOS

FWIW here is what's different in the BIOS

Primary IDE Master: HL-DT-ST NVDRAM GSA

Primary IDE Master: Plextor CD-R PX- WL

Internal Phy sata 1 ; ST32500823AS

the other difference in the BIOS is I left everything regarding memory timing as default for now

2- what to do next? Am I ready to install Window?

3- Do I have to instal a program to the HD, or the CD to work?

Please help me...... It would make me very proud if I do it by myself - WITH YOUR HELP OF COURSE...

Regarding things I did not understand in ed_jacobson's instructions..

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=49

4- please explain how to do #18

5- and how to do # 20

6- would this be the problem?

Also on that list, I didn't do anything after #23

Please help

stef.

check if u plugged everything in right like cd drives. does ur mobo detect everything??

I think I plugged everything right... ( could be wrong..)

I did put the jumpers on master (DVD) and slave (CD)

Quote: does ur mobo detect everything

My understanding of this is if it's written in the CMOS Bios , then it is detected, right?

this is what I see in the BIOS:

Primary IDE Master: HL-DT-ST NVDRAM GSA

Primary IDE Master: Plextor CD-R PX- WL

Internal Phy sata 1 ; ST32500823AS

My understanding of these is these are in order DVD, CD-RW, and HD , right?

NOPE it did not work

((EDIT

NO I did not use memtest. I don't know how this works... should I? ))

It didn't work with the DVD at first boot ( there was no DVD setting there So I choose "Removeble" for the first boor??... I get the same message....

what I also did ,to make sure i have the exact hardware and BIOS setting as AngryGames, I removed my DVD and installed the CD RW by itself in there. ( at the end of the IDE Cable with the Jumper to Master )

Put back fist boot to CD, copied BIOS from Angry, and I got the same error message...

what to do?

1st thing to do is go into BIOS, Genie BIOS settings, last item in list is Memtest =>enable

SAve and exit. Computer will now Post and go directly into memtest. Let it run for 1 hr or so for now with both RAM sticks in orange slots. If you have failures, try upping VDIMM by 0.1 (no more than say DRAM volt 2.8 tho) and retest. If still fails, leave in 1 stick in orange farthest from CPU only, then retest. If ok swap sticks, keeping 1 stick in orange farthest from CPU

If okay you can then try to load Windows. Never ever try to load Windows with unchecked RAM
