TonyM16 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Hi. I had just finished building my new rig ( My first ever build) , and it was all based around a Asus A8N32 , but it was not in stock at the time so I bought a Asus A8N SLi Premium which I was told was better. I was happy for a few days , but my Asus mobo stopped working poperly ,and have now sent it back. I am now considering getting a different mobo . I was wondering if it is a good idea to get a DFI board now instead of a Asus one, even though I picked parts that go well with an Asus. So basically what is the opinion round here, is the DFI expert board the best one around and better than the A8N32 or is it only good for certain things like Overclocking. I am thinking about getting the DFI expert board , but can't be sure if it will work with my stuff, and so can't decide between this and the A8N32. Also I have seen that there is alot of confusion as to where to place your ram sticks. So if I do buy the DFI expert board which color do I place my Corsair sticks? I really am looking for a decent "out of the box experience", and am not that concerned about Overclocking, and so idealy want high performance without doing too much fiddling . Once I am satisfied with my out of box experience I will be only then considering overclocking , and mild at that. I hope someone can give me some good advice, as I am a little confused right now. Idealy I want the very best board money can buy for my particular existing parts. Also I am a little concerned about the fan in the expert board, is it loud ? And if I use the long 7800GTX cards will they be touching the fans metal cage type thing? If it does is there anything I can do here? Thanks for reading. PS. I have a Hiper 580 watt PSU , that has a 24pin main ATX power, but only has a 4pin aux. I know that this board has a 8pin socket. This won't be an issue will it? Guest Dynamic Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 If this is your first build i wouldn't go for an Expert unless you're ready for a challenge! The Expert is very picky with hardware then other DFI boards that i've heard of. I own a DFI NF4-D that i got for only $115 and i'm pretty damn happy with it! It overclocks crazy and its so damn stable as well with my cpu/memory. I'm not really familiar with your memory, but what you can do is go into the stock/overclock database that we have here in the forum and look up your memory timings and look around or search for more information. I have a 3000+ Venice E3 with a pair of OCZ EL BH-5 that has no problem hitting 2.7GHz with a divider of course so go figure. I would go for a SLI-D unless money and challenge is not an obsticle for you. Good luck.... Note:Nice computer setup by the way, should score big in 3Dmark06, i'm sure you're going to be more than happy with it, take care.... mlinz23 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Your hardware looks fine for the board. Do you have a Hiper Type-R modular 580w or something else? The Type-R 580 should be fine and should have dual 12v connections. Your memory shouldn't have any problems either, which btw was a nice choice..It may not be the best overclocker, but its definately some sweet memory. Just make sure you get the floppy connector plugged in above the first PCI-E slot to insure stability with your video card setup. Otherwise, i see no issues with your switching to an Expert, but as mentioned it pretty picky so I would do some reading to be absolutley sure you comfortable with it. Your video card will likely touch the chipset fan, but it shouldn't cause a problem. My 7800GT rest lightly on the edge of it and my buddy had no problem with his GTX. Burky Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Definately get a DFI board. I've had several other boards in the past and this beats every other one hands down with the amount of options available. I think you're asking at the wrong place if you want an opinion as everyone here will tell you how much they love DFI.
