Darkwolfind Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Ok so im having some issues with this board. I 've run across a wierd issue with what slots i can populate my ram into. I have the choice of running in slots 2, or I can only run it in all four slots. When i run it in 4 slots my only option is to run 1t 2.5-4-4-10. However i think forcing the 1t timings is having an adverse affect on windows. It likes to just randomly crash out. Somtimes its 10mins or somtimes its 20hrs. Also this board refuses to overclock with this ram I have. Kinda supprising since my SLI-DR board would hit 255HTT with all four slots populated. Has anyone run into this problem of being forced to run 1t timings and the slot issue? Btw I've tried all sorts of voltages, and timings on the ram. TheGeekMistress Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 i've read many people stating that running 4 dimms and 1T is nothing but trouble. i've read also that there is a beta bios around here somewhere that may help overclocking with 4 diims. try asking around in Tmod's CD Bios thread. Darkwolfind Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 How I fized it was the ram wouldnt work unless it was in slot 2. Then i updated the BIOS to the 12/7 if it wasnt already. And now im force to run all 4 slots populated and have to run em in 1t.

vastonly Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Ok, like many others, I have a strange problem. For start, its my first post here, so hi to everyone! About the problem... A friend asked me to help him install a mobo (DFI NF4 SLI-DR Expert) mostly because I had some experience with similiar (non-expert) models. The processor we used is the Athlon FX-57 and for memories we grabbed 4 x 1 GB Twinmos pc3200 cl 2,5. I wont mention hard drive and graphics card models cos although changed or completely removed the problem persisted. And the problem is this. Upon boot, system detects only 3,4 GB RAM. Of course, if I try to proceed to Win install everything goes terribly slow until it freezes totally. Removing a pair of memories and reducing to 2 GB was ok at the numbers, but win setup keeps freezing in random places. Updated the bios to the latest, experimented with various memory settings but nothing. A strange thing is that if I reset the bios removing the battery, the system detects the full 4gigs. But if I try to go to the bios and "save and exit" (even though I change nothing) half gig is lost again until the next bios reset! I tried once to begin setup with the after-reset defaults, but freezing was waiting... Can anyone please help on this?

ICON57 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 i guess you have the opposite problem of me and some others. most people using 4 sticks of ram HAVE to use 2T. in your case you can only boot 4 sticks using 1T? have you tried to loosen your timings? or how about have the ram detected by spd? Darkwolfind Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Yeah im running the stock ram timings. This is a wierd problem since my SLi-DR mobo would only run these sticks in 2t at the same timings.
madian225 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Hi After reading this thread I realised that I have EXACTLY the same problem I had been thinking that it was the RAM controller on my CPU. On my SLI-DR board when I used 4 sticks I had CPC - Disabled, on my expert i did the same as you would expect but I had no end of problems the system just refused to get to the desktop at all. After reading this I put my other 2 sticks back in (now using ALL 4 RAM slots) I set CPC to ENABLE and BINGO the pc boots to the desktop with 4 sticks now. My FSB is set to 200 , CPU multi to 10, LDT/FSB ratio is set to 3, and RAM is set to 200 1:1. Timings are set as follows 2.5-3-3-7, everthing else is as per optimised default settings all I have done is added in the RAM settings as above. I would have never had tried this if I had not read this thread, you have no idea how close I cam to getting an FX 60 thinking my 4800+ chip had had it. For info my baord is revision : NF4-SLI-DR Expert, NF4-E91-100 AA0
