a confession.

so i thought for sure my ram was holding me back at 1:1 because at 2.7 ghz my computer would always fail prime after like 4 hours. and for some reason i assumed my 3200 should be able to hit 2.7. so i lowered my oc played with timings, adjusted voltages ect...and got it stable at 2.65 with my mem on a 9/10 divider running at ~250. well after ALL the reviews ive read my mem could easily do that and more; most people hit ~280mhz. so i decided to keep the same timings and run the mem at 1:1 and BAMN primed for over 12 hours stable. so all along my proc wall was at 2.65 with the volts i was willing to run it.

***the confession***

i jumped the gun and didnt find my INDIVIDUAL component walls. i just A-S-S-umed my mem was holding me back.

**POINT** i should have followed the guide!!

***POINT 2*** Oc is not a guranteed science. i shouldnt have EXPECTED any of my components to do anything beyond spec. Just because everyone elese hits XXXghz doesnt mean MINE will.

Lesson Learned.

divided.. You know I have to admit that sometimes when I first get a piece of hardware I might just shoot up to the speed I see most people running... But if it doesnt work right away I back down and follow the usual routine.. (the guide)

For someone that isnt familiar with overclocking I suggest following the guide from the start though.. Its better that way because you get a better feel of what your individual components like..

My first hammer core topped out at 2.3. Same deal as divided, I just was not willing to accept that. Blamed everything else and even wondered if I had any OC skills whatsover. Just a bad overclocking CPU and that was that..

I'm still trying to get my cpu ceiling now after three weeks but I've been taking it casually, and I haven't even started on my memory, though I don't have high hopes as my ram is cheap.

I'm testing now at 2.6ghz @ 1.50v so I'll be happy if I can make this.

A valuable lesson indeed.

When I get to ocing my ram, how do I monitor the ram temps? I don't think SpeedFan monitors that...
