Guest Darien Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I'm still on the fence b/w an NF4-D and an Ultra-D... since I can mod, the only real difference in the Dual-Gigabit LAN... Does anyone really use it? what's it for? should I spend the extra 10-15 bucks to get it?
bexer Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 If you're asking the question chances are you're not going to use it. My take:Save some $$. However, I would also like to hear about how people are using both lan ports.
divided Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 i think of it as more a backup. one is a marvel lan and the other a nvidia lan port. so at least by having 2 if one fails for some odd reason, you have a backup. other than that theres really not much use for 2 ports for most people. only thing i can think of would be setting up a windows 2000 box as a firewall, nat server, or router. crispy_chunks Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Well ive used it a few times when i didnt have a switch and a friend came over - apart from that, its useless.
omegatek Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I use it for my modded xbox One line from my router goes to my hometheater pc I than use the Nvidia Lan for my modded xbox so that I don't have to run another 40ft of cat5e cable to the living room since my hometheater pc sits on above the xbox in my entertainment rack. Hm, I think there's plenty of folks - just like me - who appreciate the possibility of having a nice small network, without being forced to buy an extra card. Guest Timmay Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I use it at work to get to two diffrent VLans, also I could be good when you go to your mates house, instead of wrecking your IP settings ect you just plug it in to the other port... Gary_Johnston Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I use both of mine, one goes to the other computer and the other goes to my xbox 360 to use media connect and whatnot. It's a handy thing for me to have.

Guest Darien Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 OK, thx guys... Since I have a router I probably won't NEED one... but I can now see the advantages of having it... I'd probably just spend the extra $10 bucks in case I'll use it someday...

Wetchaser Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Exactly what me and my friend had when he came over, a small network Would there be an advantage to doing this over a small hub?
