CPU HeatSink?

Recommended Posts

Your Swiftech is a good all around sink. If you want to continue running at 2200 mhz, don't change it. If you want higher speeds, I'd consider water because the Typhoon is extremely heavy. (It is a good sink and extremely quiet)

Are you using a shim under the sink? If so, check the installation and thickness. Also, verify the sink is installed properly by removing the sink carefully and inspecting the imprint the core left on the sink. Should be uniform. On the install, use Artic Silver 5 (or substitute) for thermal conductivity. Do not install dry.

Which way are your case fans blowing? In order to get the best cooling, you need the lowest ambient temp. One thing to try is to remove your case side door and install a table fan blowing against the mobo. If temps drop a lot, your airflow through the case is not the best.

Can you get your hands on a thermal probe? If so, verify the temp you have recorded on your software before making changes. You might have a temp recording issue.

CPU Idle works well. I'm using it and typically drop my idle temps by 6 - 8 degrees C. Does not affect benchmarks running in the background.

If i go with water I would get a VapoChill case, I have 2 fron 80mm fans and 2 rear 80mm fans, I think they are kind of weak, maybe I will get 4 new fans for front and back. Where can I get a Thermal probe? IS that hardware or a progy?

I used CPUIdleExtreme, but I got now a new progy the guys here says it works wonders, the name is S2KNGO it is onyl for the LANPARTY NFII ULTRA B mobo's. I unstalled the cpuideextreme, should I reinstall it or can other cooling progy's work with the S2KNGO?

Thanks,

Thermal-right slk900 Are supposed to be really really really good (Best for "air",Better than most water blocks) . The one you have should be nearly as good as anything else. Lemme find ya' "Angry_games" sig. He has some really good stuff in there . I'll Edit this post for ya' no point in double posting.

My Vcore is 1.60

AGP-1.70

Chipset-1.70

DDRam-2.70

Is this cool? Temps are CPu-42, case 29, this is at idle.

Thats getting better.

What you have can do alot better . Are you using a really good thermal paste. The generic white paste could account for some of your extra heat if that's what you are using.(Artic-Silver5 or Ceramic-3 to 5c) And a bigger(More cfm) fan could help a lot too. Another thing you really should drop that agp voltage. The chipset doesnt need 1.7 for 200fsb at least not on any of my rigs.

Anouther thing I looked up your psu. And normally it should be enough. But you have a 6800 Ultra listed in your specs. (That's a monster card and with everything else you have listed I'd say you are cutting it reallyreally close that maybe the source of some video errors if that's why have the agp overvolted so much.) I've had trouble w/480 watts and my 6800gt. But yer' 12volt rails are quite abit stronger but still yer' card is somewhat bigger too.

But really that is a premium quality heatsink it should run cooler than it does. But that 42c is usible maybe better paste,paste-job bigger fan should be better.

I lowered my cpu volt to 1.60 and everything else. No my CPU Temp is 38 when IDLE and I am running S2KNGO, i think that also is helping. But now I want to give this cpu to my son he has a ABIT NF7-S, what CPU would you recommend for my, this CPU has to be the most I can put into this mobo, so please recommend.

Thanks,

Joe

I swear by the Thermalright SI-97....

Most if not all 2400, 2500, 2600 can do 200x10 200x11 by the boards default 1.55vcore...

but even at 1.65vcore temps should be 30c or lower.....make sure you check the sensors for accuracy....

With the rig in sig with ambient room temps of 68deg F my idle cpu temps are 25c load of 30-32c (mostly 30c)

I am not using Artic silver...I am using Nanotherm silver....I like it...I also tried Shin Etsu and have the same temps..... I also saw a reduction of 2 deg C when I re-did the TIM as AG shows in his tutorial.... I think the prep work is the most to count for it...

look up you cpu and see if you have the 35w or the 45w version....

I would clear the cmos and the lock the agp at 66 and then set 200x10 or 200x11 and test it....the board default vcore 1.55.... if it passes good... if not try 1.625....

Edit: I will also add all 2 of my case fans run 1000 rpm or less and the 92mm cpu fan runs 2500rpm.... dead quiet and just as cool....

If I crank the 2 case fans to full and the cpu fan to 4000 I can get the cpu to match the case temp (20-21c) even under load....but it's loud

Is that the best I can get for my mobo? Or can I get Athlon XP 3200+ Barton (2.20ghz)

I would not suggest getting an Athlon XP 3200. Many people have had problems getting them to run properly on these boards.

Not to mention..... they cost more, have locked multipliers, and don't overclock as well as the mobile processors.
