KimTjik Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 mine is taking upwards of 45 s before windows logo shows That's sound pretty much, but may I ask: do you count the time from when the system has posted and the operating system is taking over? Or do you include all of it? If you mean the latter I suppose it's normal, but if you're just talking about the booting process, maybe it could be good to first take a look in msconfig to check your startup list. Guest Crusader Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 PC is off. I turn it on and then it will take around 27 seconds from the Phoenix BIOS screen to the XP Logon window. (The blue progress animation in the XP loading screen only appears 1 and a half times). (XP is installed on the fastest harddisk[1], I've carefully tuned all the XP services[2], swapfile is placed on a second harddisk, bootdisk is regularly defragmented [3], registry is optimized [4], latest NVidia IDE drivers are installed [5], tuned the Boot Devices settings in the BIOS[6].) [1] WD Raptor 74GB [2] With help of the excellent Black Viper configuration mirrorsite: http://majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=12 [3] I use Raxco PerfectDisk, one of the best disk defragmenters. [4] For this I use the excellent freeware utility ERUNT (also for creating real backups of your registry. Highly recommended!) [5] Install at your own risk, not everyone has good experience with these drivers. [6] First Boot Device is my Harddisk, ALL the other Boot devices are disabled, also disabled are the Swap - and Bootup Floppy Seek settings. When ya do want to boot from CD/DVD/floppy just press ESC to enter the Bootmenu!)

nitemareglitch Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 From after post, Im not sure how long it takes, but, its no where near 45secs
jimbob277 Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 My post takes a long time when oc'ed. Like 10 seconds or so. Seems to be the fact I'm currently using a vcore multiplier. The post seems to take much longer if I use a multi than without. After the post tho, I'd say its about 30 seconds, then perhaps 2 seconds or so for everything to load up once the desktop appears. I see the blue bar in the xp loading screen 2.5 times before It loads. Weird thing is, when I used to have an ide hd hooked up for storage, I'd only see the blue bar get about 3/4 of the way across, before it moved onto the next bit (when everything goes black and it ajusts the resolution). Raptors make a big difference. Expecially after the desktop has appeared and its waiting for icons to load.
Yankee Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 From completely OFF, pressing the Power Button it takes me 29 secs to get to the Desktop and be able to use Apps. The Blue Windows Bar goes across the screen once. Note: I do have the RAID screen come up for a few seconds. Damn that RAID!
