Jachyra007 Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Yea, after digging around some more I found some timelines of escalating conflict - a lot of back-and-forth tit-for-tat. Looks like it's affecting oil prices too, with the near record numbers that barrels are selling for the past few days. Although why gas prices jump a few days after something happens, is odd to me. Shouldn't the bought barrel prices affect station prices when that expensive oil finally gets to market, not the day after it sells? I saw prices jump almost $0.15 the 2nd day after trading with the market scare. Seemed pretty fast to me...

They put you in jail for gouging water prices after a catastrophe but Bush's buddies can butt rape the world on a daily basis with impunity.............. Angry_Games Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 well... when you hear things like "Exxon recorded 9 BILLION DOLLARS IN PROFIT IN A SINGLE QUARTER (that's 3 months time for those of you not familiar with quarters)" 9 billion in a single 3 month period yet we are paying $3.00 for a gallon of gasoline you tell me how badly my butt is bleeding from this?> I'd rather be set upon in prison by a raper-gang of inmates at least it would all be over at once unlike the oil companies who just rape you anytime and everytime you have to put gas in your car (and gee...wasn't it the oil companies and the car companies that really made us dependent on owning our own cars and buying up all the public transportation systems so you'd forget about that and buy yourself a nice piece of american automotive steel? Check it out if you think this is a tinfoil hat theory...GM and others got in a lot of trouble over this back in the 50's or 60's)

red930 Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 ok so here's a thread for everyone to just ask anything they want you can ask me, or momma, or both of us some subjects we won't answer...thats just the way it is, but most subjects we have an opinion on (and that is what you are asking...for our opinion on something) what is so special about me or momma that makes our opinion worthy???? absolutely nothing but I get all kinds of crazy questions every day from all kinds of odd people (some has to do with computer stuff, some doesn't have anything to do with computers). I just thought maybe it would be interesting to see what kinds of questions some of you have, as well as what some of our answers might be. Keep in mind I'm a pretty liberal (not THAT liberal lol) 32 year old male that lives in a very red state momma is a 23 year old (happy bday momma!) pretty liberal college student that lives with me in a very red state we like hockey, video games, and probably a lot of other stuff that no one cares about we've answered all kinds of questions from tech stuff to love advice to some incredibly...strange things that aren't meant to be repeated in a forum that has rules against profanity and pornography hehe anyway our opinions are just that, so keep that in mind before you get all bent out of shape at some of the answers we might give someone (because I can guarantee already that there's already a few of you bent out of shape in anticipation of some damned answer we will give someone lol) maybe if you ask a good enough question, you might get a prize...it might be a thumbtack...or a roll of duct tape...or an OCZ t-shirt, or a dead 3500+ Clawhammer, or a working-but-busted-up-pretty-bad 4400+ X2...or something I dunno I got lots of junk to give away that other people covet that I never use and collects dust hehe anyway ask away Tell me more? red930 Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 The gasoline you buy at the pump is prices based upon how much it costs to replace the inventory. Professor Walter E. Williams of George Mason University has a very clear text on this subject that every American should read and understand... http://www.gmu.edu/departments/economics/w.../economics.html and here... http://www.gmu.edu/departments/economics/w.../06/prices.html Current gas prices are about 10% above the adjusted for inflation figure of $2.50 a gallon when you figure that in the 1950's we paid about $30 cents a gallon. When you add in the new taxes introduced since the 1950's, we're just about even. Amazing what inflation will do to prices! http://www.gmu.edu/departments/economics/w...les/05/gas.html I love it when people blame the Oil companies for making a profit like that's a bad thing. Sure the Oil companies are reaping huge profits. That's because they own the oil and the worldwide price of oil has gone up. Go figure! They certainly aren't making any more profit at the pump which is all that you or I should be concerned about. The $8 cent per gallon profit today is the same as it's been since the 1930's. Since the 1980's we've lost 3 percent of our refining capacity while demand has shot up 25 percent. This imbalance has caused price fluctuations that we didn't have to deal with in the past. Additionally, this reduced refining capacity has caused spot shortages when refineries switch between Winter and Summer blends or when they need to shutdown the refinery for maintenance. The combination of changing blends and deferred maintenance due to Katrina and Rita caused shortages of gasoline this spring and into the summer. New refineries don't just magically appear from the ground. The Oil companies have to invest their profits into these refineries. During the 1980's and 90's, low profits cause the Oil companies to put off modernizing their refineries with new processes that are more efficient and flexible. The increase demand meant that they couldn't shut down a refinery for upgrades without causing shortages which would raise the pump price due to demand. The Oil companies have had very low profits and even losses for years due to depressed oil prices. I know this for a fact since I hold stock in several Oil companies. Yet no one came around and said, "perhaps we should raise oil prices so these guys can make a decent profit". Ha! If there's anyone to blame about gas prices and Oil company profits, look in the mirror and at your neighbor. BTW When Katrina hit my area, gas prices were frozen for 90 days at the price they were when the disaster declaration was made. How many of you would be willing to sell it for $2.35 a gallon due to price controls when it cost you $3.00 a gallon to refine it? Yet this is what the Oil companies were forced to do for three months. Doesn't seem fair does it?
ReelFiles Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 I saw a Discovery Channel special about building abridge connecting Alaska n Siberia via the Bering strait. Seems far fetched, but with out technology should be feasible, especially considering all the money we spend on space exploration. Imo, if the earth dies, so do we. Any space station will eventually die out due to interbreeding or lack of resources anyway. Take all the money we waste on fighting the "war on drugs", and put it towards something useful, instead of wasting it on a lost cause. Inappropriation of funds is the term, I think. And the USA is guilty of it, just like a lot of other countries. Sorry about the rant, had a bit of a rough night.

JoeWho Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Could we get away with nuking the middle east? Just need a way to pump the oil. $.25 per gallon sounds nice. What impact would it have. Bet that North Korean WAKO would shut up. WELL, I KNOW I'M CRAZY, BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK??
