joek71 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I currently have Swiftech cpu cooler with a 92mm fan Panaflo. Trying to get better cooling. What would you recomened?
BlueOval Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Reason he asks why is because Vapochill is overkill for such an old system. Better to spend that money on an nF3 or nF4 system and go A64. A 120 M1A puts out 86 cfm at 36 dba or thereabouts - lot more air than your 92. How are your case fans placed? Do you have positive or negative airflow scheme? Have you cut out the grills off the case for better airflow? Any dead spots within the case?
joek71 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 The front 2 fans intake and the 2 rear fans outtake
BlueOval Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Quick suggestion since I'm about ready to go to work - Try this: Cut out the metal grills in the back of your case and put some aftermarket grills on there. Remove both intake fans completely. Reason is axial fans are better at pulling than pushing, so your exhaust fans will actually pull air all the way from the front out the back. Check temps and if they increase, put 1 intake back in on the bottom-most hole and recheck temps. How long has it been since you cleaned the inside of your case/HSF? Use a can of compressed air to get any dust out - especially the HS. The 120 fan I mentioned earlier blows a lot more air than does your 92. If your Swiftech won't accept 120s, look into getting a 90-120 adapter or possibly switching HS's to a Thermalright model that will take a 120. You could also mod your case by cutting a top blowhole - I'd make it a 92. I assume (dangerous I know) that all of your case fans are 80s? What are their specs? (CFM a& dBA) Check your temps in various places within your case - by the vid card, memory, etc - to see if you have any hot spots and rearrange airflow scheme accordingly. Sorry if suggestions seem disjointed, thinking fast as I head out the door. What are your idle/load temps? [edit to add]Thought of a few more this morning - Did you apply any thermal paste (ie, Arctic Silver 3/5/Ceramique)? If not, that's good for a 1-2 degree C drop once it sets in.. What's the ambient temp in your room? If it's warm in your room all you're doing with those 2 front intakes is sending your warm room air into your case. Where do you keep your comp? On your desk? Under your desk? In a cubby hole? Do your exhaust fans have room to vent the exhaust? Besides cutting away the metal grills in the back of your case, a top blowhole's probably your best bet for a cheap cooling upgrade; but the top needs room to vent too, so don't have the case in a cubby hole-like enclosure in your desk.. What case fans are you using? (I know I already asked this..) If stock Antec fans they're not pushing a whole lotta air, so look into picking up some H1As if you can stand the noise or you could mod the 2 80mm holes in back into 1 120mm hole.. (Still assuming your case fans are 80s) Need more info![/edit]

What would you recomened?Rather than trying to improve such an old system, invest in a DFI N4 Ultra & a X2 3800+. NEOAethyr Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 An 80 or 92mm tornado. Even though the cfm rating is actually less, it truthfully pushes more air then any panaflo, I have 3 120mm uh panaflo's myself. None of them compete against my 80mm tornado. The tornado is alot louder though, but it sure last alot longer then those panaflo's. Matter of fact, I won't ever stick a panaflo next to a heat source again, screw over my hearing for abotu a month now. At least one ear is'nt ringing anymore, the right ear is still ringing slightly though. So now I only have 2 panaflo's...., the other is trash(cheap enough though lol). Well, I never had probs until I got that 600w ocz psu, with it's rails cranked way up by default, I know that did'nt help. But still, the panaflo should'nt of done that, so I know it would eventually doit it at normal lv's anyways, just it would take alot longer. So I don't trust them on top of any heatsink anymore. They must be over an inch away, not at or under. Anyways there's been people with pahse chnaging on a atxp before... I don't see a prob, I dn if that specific model has the ability to mount to our boards or not but hey. It's defently worth it. Then agian those are pretty expensive, spending say $500 on a new board and dual core opty would perhaps be the better way. But if you want to crank up the atxp up for the heck of it, go for it . EdLSmith Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 I have a couple of them and I got really good results. I put a 92mm VanTec Tornadoe on ine and was well satisfied with results. It really helps. Te shroud diverted part of the air to cover the RAm and PWMIC.
