OCZ Powerstream 520W enough?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all existing stock of the 520w Powertream have the 8 pin (2 x 4 pins you connect together), PCI-e connectors for 2 cards and should run your system just fine. Just don't load it up with cathode lights. They are real power drains. Plus you get my help if you need it. :)

I am not familiar with the Fortron but 12v output of 60a with a 600w PSU sound like monkey doo to me. Don't think that is possible.

haha wow i had no idea that cathode lights were that much of a power drain

anyway thanks, I think im gonna buy the ocz 520w

The cheap transformers supplied with cold cathode lights are the main issue. I believe they cause system noise that feeds back through the PC that will cause power related issues. It's best tp power them off a small seperate PSU.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I just can't wrap my mind around this..

How would I use a secondary PSU for powering Cathodes? The only possibility I see is using an ATX starter plug, and then settle for using the switch on the PSU to light the cathodes.. I can't see how I can start 2 PSU's via my ordinary power on switch, if my motherboard doesn't support redundant PSU's..

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Anybody can tell me the difference between this one....

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...CZ%20Technology

and this one....

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...CZ%20Technology

Which one should I get?? I'm not using SLI right now but I intend to in the future...

One of them is said to have active PFC (GREEN) and the other has SLI(BLUE)

Does that mean that the SLI(BLUE) does NOT come with active PFC ???

I wanna get the blue because is SLI ready and I'm not sure if the 8PIN CPU cable is compatible with my mobo....see sig

Anybody can give me a hand with this?

Thanks

The blue fan model is newer and has 2 x PCI-e connectors for SLI. It has passive PFC. The green fan model has one PCI-e and APFC.

I don't think the APFC really does much, but the choice is yours. Either will do fine for you.
