drmattx Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I am having a few small problems with my computer First, at the moment I have 2*512 Geil ultra x memory I also have another 2*512 sticks of Geil ultra x memory but when ever I put more that 1 gig of mem in the system wont boot at its starts bleeping at me. Does anyone know why I cant put more that one gig on mem in? My second problem is that at the moment I am running 2 SATA2 samsung spinpoint hard drives in RAID-0 now this works fine but I also have another 80gig SATA 1 Hard drive that I want to use as a separate drive but when in windows this drive is not visible but NRAID can see it as a free drive. So my question is that can this drive run separately from the RAID array? Thanks.
R3aper Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 test each ram stick separately, maybe one is defective?
drmattx Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I have tested all the sticks and they all seems to work ok.
Tenz Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I'd say run all your RAM sticks through memtest86 by themselves or in pairs to see if they are all good... next I think you have to set your DRAM command rate to 2T for 4 DIMM's I was having a similar issue with a hard drive of mine and someone on here told me to go to "disk management" and format the drive with NFTS and give it a drive name/letter and such, worked for me... give it a try (looks like someone beat me to the "test each stick" thingy )
drmattx Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 i dont mean to be a noob but how can i format the drive?
boatasiaus Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 If you will be using 4 sticks of RAM, you need to change CPC to 2T. To do this,
boatasiaus Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Are the 4 sticks identical (ie have the same timings) If you will be using 4 sticks of RAM, you need to change CPC to 2T. To do this, in Genie BIOS, DRAM Settings, CPC Disabled. This should solve your problem
drmattx Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 yer all the stick are the saming timings the only diffrence that one pair is the NF4 edition which are newer and the other pair are about 8months old which i used on my old system the two sticks im running at the moment are the NF4 one and they are running at 2-3-2-5 i think that the cpc is set to auto, should it be set to 2 if i just want to add 1 more 512 stick because this also prevents it from booting
boatasiaus Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 If all 4 sticks use the same timings, do as I suggested Genie Bios, DRAM settings, Set CPC to disabled (=2t). Defaults is enabled (=1T)
Tenz Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 You can format it by clicking on "Start" then right click on "My Computer" and then click Manage... or something along those lines, you then can click on "disk management" and the drive should show up in there, you then format it in NFTS and give it a label/letter and shizam! good to go! lowboy Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Use either 2 or 4 sticks not 3.
