foodfightr Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I'm looking for a way to cool this without "jolly rigging" an 80mm fan somewhere between my TT Big Typhoon and my IDE cables. Has anyone tried adding a heatsink, either passive or cooling? I don't mind spending money on something that will work, or DIY (do it yourself) type stuff is fine too. Something like this: http://www.case-mod.com/store/cooler-maste...blue-p-947.html Or maybe a DIY tutorial.
Guest FZ1 Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Your best bet is a fan blowing on them. You can mount HS's on it but the sensor is not within the MOFSETs so even if you are cooling it a little better the lower temps prolly won't register. zeimbo Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 i did this temps decreased a few degrees, you really do need a fan on that thing tho. i used thermal tape instead of artic silver or alumina or anything. works ok and definitely better than nothing. AndrewZorn Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 i did the same thing, didnt decrease temps in sensors obviously because they dont measure them on there i thought i WAS cooling the mofsets but thats something different but hey zeimbo, i see you have the 3 inline, what is the fourth!? i have enough aluminum to make a forth, but looking back and forth at my board, i cannot find a fourth 'R60'... EDIT and for things that small, the AS5 will be plenty to hold it on without being too permanant.
aciddance Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Here's what I did with mine, now it stays at 29c at idle and max's at about 40c under load.

EDIT and for things that small, the AS5 will be plenty to hold it on without being too permanant. my fourth one at the bottom is for my pwmic. they are all just thermaltaped on, surprising the as5 wouldnt hold them on there well, which kinda worked out because i was worried that it would possibly jump some of the circuitry due to its conductive nature. so you are correct, its the 3 mosfets and the pwmic that i have the tweakmonster bga sinks on. those and my silencer 6 rev. 2 helped get my 6600gt to 631/1240. aciddance Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 can u guys give give me a link to what you are using to keep that heatsink attached? They come with sticky on the back of them that does a good enough job.
ripken204 Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 thx, can u give me a link for the heatsink then?
Misfit79 Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hey everyone, this is my first post here but I thought I would share my DIY solution, its total overkill but it keeps the pwmic chip almost at ambient temps, the sensor doesnt reflect this but a direct reading of the heatsink does. its not finished yet, still need to do somthing with the center hub but it works for now! powsmowl Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 nice, your rig looks awesome, misfit, is that a thermaltake silent tower your using? what fans are you using and what are your temps?
Misfit79 Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Thanks! Its a TT Sonic tower with 2 120mm coolermaster fans added, they run @ around 1500rpm with 1.55v on the core I idle @ about 35c and with dual prime 95's going temps max out at about 50c
