NINaudio Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Gah.....I'm getting really frustrated with this setup. I cannot get Prime95 to run for more than a few minutes at stock levels. My vcore is even at 1.425v and prime95 still craps out on both cores within minutes. I've gone as high as 1.5v but even then I get maybe 9 minutes before they both stop. Ram is known working from previous build, would run 250 @ 2.5-3-3-10 on MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. forever; processor, mobo, and vid card are the only new items in this build. Windows XP SP2 is fully updated, dual core patch is installed from AMD, and the mshotfix installed also. I've got my memory running with "safe" timings. Everything is set to AG's timings listed in the stock speed database for my ram or even lower. I've memtested for over 4 hours on all tests with no errors, looped test 5 with no errors in 75 runs. Superpi 32M passes. But still not Prime95 for more than a few minutes at best.... Will screenshots of my bios settings help at all? Need more info, if so what? Tell me what I can do to better my chances of getting some help, please! EDIT: Advised by corsair ramguy to reset bios to defaults and run it at 2-2-2-5 timings with 2.7v to start from. Memtested for 4 hours, no problems. Prime95 stable for 10 hours and counting as of 1/20/

wevsspot Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Is your computer running everything else ok (i.e. gaming, surfing, other benchmark and stress tests etc.)? If so, next time you fire up dual prime, run torture test, blended, select a custom size for memory usage. At default each instance of Prime will use 926mb of memory. Change that to a custom usage of around 750mb, allowing some free memory for other things going on within your OS.
NINaudio Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I do the cutom torture test with 350 mb of memory for each core. I have not tried any games or gaming benchmarks. I'd like it to be stable before I go playing games. Everything else is not running fine. I get random reboots and ie crashes. xguy Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Does your PSU have an 8 pin power connector? are all (3) power connectors properly connected to your mobo?,
NINaudio Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 My psu does not have the 8 pin connector, but according to the manual, a 4 pin will suffice for a single card system. The 4 pin connector is connected as shown in the manual. Other than that, the psu is native 24-pin, and the floppy power connector is connected above the video card. I have checked and rechecked the connections and they are all securely plugged in.....
wevsspot Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Download and run OCCT and see if your rig will pass that stress test.
NINaudio Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 will try as soon as I get home....
Aynjell Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 It is strongly reccomended to have an 8 pin, for stability's sake.
NINaudio Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 After reading the manual, the reviews, and some comments here it seemed as though the 4 pin would be fine for a single video card rig, especailly at stock speeds! This same psu was powering an oc'ed venice at 2750mhz @ 1.62v on an nf3 board with an oc'ed 6800gt @ 420/1120, I don't see why it wouldn't be able to stably power this mobo, cpu, and gpu at stock speeds. Does anyone else think that's really the issue? I have an 8pin power adapter on it's way here....... OCCT failed at 28:13, 28:57, and on the thrid run it passed......... NINaudio Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 in place fft's have run for 9 hours before I stopped it, but the blend is where it dies. edit: I have the old mobo, but all I would I would ahve to reinstall windows for it and all that jazz and then I'd only be able to test the cpu. ram and psu are known working from the build with the old mobo....
