Install Nvidia Chipset Drivers with Audio ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm going to format C: my system and make a fresh reinstall of windows.

I will use a Creative Audigy 2 ZS card and not the onboard sound. So do I have to install the Audio Drivers of the nForce Driver Package ?

Those are the right drivers right ? :

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_wi...2_amd_6.70.html

I want to use these and not the ones from the DFIpage, because they are very old, Version 6.53 ...

So install the Audio drivers or not when I'am going to install a separate Audiocard with it's own creative drivers ?

thanks and greets

Cyg

btw: Do I have to install the IDE-Drivers ? I have a nvRAID0 System and I do have

to install the SW-IDE Drivers but do I also have to install the normal IDE Drivers of nvidia ? Heard they are crappy too and make a slow boot.

Do as ah_khoo say's, I accidently loaded the onboard drivers with my audigy and had a lot of problems, so I reinstalled the 6.70 and left audio out , and the system is fine.

? the 6.70 from nvidia when loading says that some of the drivers are not WHQL certified, on their site its says 6.70 is.

Okay thanks, and what about the IDE Drivers ? Maybe other ppl with Raid can help me with that. Whats also strange is that on the current RAID Driver for WINXP 32bit on the DFI Page, there isn't the raidgmt.ini windows prompts in the GUI Install, the step mentioned in the RAID Tutorial of Angrygame on the last page. I used an older diskette where this file was on, but the driver is also not the newest.

I would like to use the newest, but when I used the newest driver that I copied onto the floppy, the setup said on wininstall, (the point where you hit F6 to install the raiddriver from floppy) that it couldnt read the data system on the diskette or something like that. I'm pretty sure it was FAT, what else should be on a diskette ?? ... But it didn't worked so I had to use an halfyear old diskette with the drivers on it that worked. Any solution for this ? On that older diskette is also a .bmp file named nf4-sata, just a picture of the S-ata region on the board, I don't know why this is on the driver diskette ?? On the newer drivers you won't find this *.bmp and the raidgmt.ini .

btw: The Biosoptions "Thermalthrottling" and "Errata 123" and "ACPI Srat"

who do I have to set these ? I heard Thermalthrottling should be disabled, Errate 94 too, but Errata 123 also ? And ACPI Srat is enabled by default, should I disable it ? And what is the FDC-Controller ? Can I disable it ?

What about the Networkdrivers ? I use the nforce nvidia onboard network port and install the Ethernet drivers that come with the nForce chipset driver package, why is there an extra Nvidia Network NDIS driver on the DFIPage ? Do I have to install that one instead of the nforce driver ?

Hello Cygnus.

Don't know much about the RAID since I don't use it. Angry has posted an update to the Sticky on this topic, but I see you have replied on that thread...probably best to wait for a reply on that thread.

If you are O/C, and it appears you are, then it is usually recommended in this forum to disable thermal throttling as well as "Cool and Quiet".

Errata 123 depends on your cpu. Early versions of AMD 64 had some issues with reading the cache (if I remember the issue correctly) and "errata 123" was to correct it. Later versions of the chips do not need it. So it depends on your chip. It apparently can't hurt to leave it enabled even if you don't need it--maybe a small performance hit, but no problems. The official recommendation from RGone, a forum mod, is this:

"With E stepping 3, 4, 5, 6, set enabled."

You can read some more info here about errata 123 and do some search on your own and make up your own mind:

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34858

I use the nVidia network drivers with the chipset package and they work just fine. Don't know about the ACPI setting. If it is related to the hardware abstraction layer, I would not change it from default or you could have big problems, BUT I am not sure about that so wait for some advice from someone who really knows.

Good luck, Auf Wiedersehn (my german is much worse than your very good english :)

Hmm thanks for the reply sQuid, I have an Venice DH-E6 so I will leave this Errata 123 on Auto and test later how it will decrease stability on my rig if it's disabled (Like the plus in the benchmarks with errata disabled :D )

Hey good to hear that my english is not that bad, although my english teacher claims that I have to work on my grammar :P

Auf Wiedersehen :)
