LuckMan212 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 hello, I am still breaking in my new NF4 expert. IS there anything wrong with flashing the BIOS using Winflash as opposed to a DOS flash? I ask because I dont have a floppy attached this this box and it would be a real hassle to attach one. Heres the method I used: 1) downloaded 12/7 bios official from www.dfi.com.tw 2) used WinImage to extract the bios.bin file from the .exe 3) flashed with WinImage, checked all boxes to Update & clear CMOS 4) rebooted, load setup defaults it seemed to work OK, but I am curious if that is an approved or correct method. I ask also because I have some really weird wording on some certain screens in the BIOS for example: under DRAM configuration, for IdleCycle Limit, the help area says "...dynamically adjusts the idl5 ycle limit..." note the "5" instead of an "e" and the missing "C" in "cycle" .. so I am just wondering if I have a corrupt flash or is that what you all have also in your BIOS. Could someone pls. check for me? thanks!
Cyberparasite Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 yeah that's a corrupt flash. the procedure you used looks exactly like what i did when i loaded 12/7. i'm assuming you had a stablesystem in windows when you flashed. i'd flash it again, that seems shaky. LuckMan212 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Thanks Cyber... is there any way to flash from a burned CD or something? i really dont want to hook a floppy to this rig ....... also, are you sure its a bad flash? i mean, did you actually look at your BIOS to see if yours doesnt have that same typo? just curious.... :cat:
Guest Ryn Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Download Tmod's BIOS Flash cd, it has the 12/07 in it as well.
Cyberparasite Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 i'd flash right over it with winflash as long as i was sure i had a stable system. didn't have to look in it, i already have screenshots of everything.
LuckMan212 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 actually that screenshot doesnt show the area in question. you have to navigate down so the "IdleCycle Limit" setting is selected, and then glance over to the right hand help area to see if it is matching my strange text above. roko71 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I have the exact same typo in the help screen, but absolutly no problems with this BIOS. Personaly i think it's just a case of a tired non englisch speaking programmer on overtime writing the help section.

LuckMan212 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 ok thanks guys ..... at least I dont have a bad BIOS chip or a corrupt flash. Now I can move on to finishing my RAM testing..... just Out of Curiosity what is the current shipping rev. of the Expert board? Mine is an AA0 but in my readings around here I see some people reporting some odd problems with that rev, so Im wondering if there is a newer one or if thats the latest?
