The Cheesemo Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 ugh... I've forgoten what sleep is. anyway... on th retail site that i bought my cpu from it says it has a voltage of 1.35/1.40 so is that what i should set my CPU VID Control option in my BIOS? madu Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Yes.. CPU VID Control specifies the voltage to your cpu. The SPECIAL VID Control specifies what percentage MORE of your current CPU VID to supply.. Also check the voltages in bios after you setting the values... The Cheesemo Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 so does that mean that i should set my CPU VID Control alittle lower then the listed voltage. and then just up the special control to be at the rated voltage?? RGone Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Set cpu vid to 1.4 volts at least until you begin to overclock and then you may well HAVE to add by cpu vid special 110% or so depending on how far you push a clock. m0rpheus Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 So with a set up like this, does anymore have suggestion on getting a higher clock speed currently stable (under Prime 95) @ 2.42Ghz, I want to go higher but stable. BIOS date 04/06/2006 FSB Bus Frequency 255MHz LDT/FSB Frequency X3.0 LDT Bus Transfer Width 16 x 16 CPU/FSB Frequency Ratio 9.5 PCI eXpress Frequency 100 MHz K8 Cool’n’Quiet Support Disable CPU VID StartUp Value Startup CPU VID Control Auto CPU VID Special Control Auto LDT Voltage Control 1.20 V Chip Set Voltage Control 1.52 V DRAM Voltage Control 2.66 V PCI eXpress Configuration 8-4-NC-8 Dual NV Chip Card Support Disable DRAM Frequency Set (Mhz) 200=RAM/FSB 01/01 Command Per Clock (CPC) Auto CAS Latency Control (Tcl) Auto RAS to CAS delay (Trcd) Auto Min RAS active time (Tras) Auto Row Precharge time (Trp) Auto Row cycle time (Trc) 07 Bus Clocks Row refresh cyc time (Trfc) Auto Row to Row delay (Trrd) 02 Bus Clocks Write recovery time (Twr) 02 Bus Clocks Write to Read delay (Twtr) 02 Bus Clocks Read to Write delay (Trwt) 03 Bus Clocks Refresh period (Tref) 3120 Cycles Odd Divisor Correct Disable DRAM Bank Interleave Enabled DQS Skew Control Auto DQS Skew Value 0 DRAM Drive Strength Auto DRAM DATA DRIVE STRENGTH Auto Max Async Latency Auto DRAM Response Time Fast(choices are Normal FAst, Slow,& Fastest) Read Preamble Time Auto Idle Cycle Limit 256 Cycles Dynamic Counter Disable R/W Queue Bypass 16x Bypass Max 07x 32 Byte Granularity Disable (4 Bursts)
Guest caffeinejunkie Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Well the first problem I see is the 9.5 multi for some reason a64s hate half step multis so only use like 10x 9x 8x ect your also pushing your ram past rated speeds so that could beholding you so try a smaller divider or even use the 1/02 to totally rule it out I also see your using stock volts so you can up that as well but first I would recommend reading the Definitive DFI Overclocking Guide Good Luck and if you need any more help you can just pm me im helping about 5 members tweak their setups via pm/email/ and aim and id be happy to help anyone else
m0rpheus Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Thanks I can use it, been tweaking this system and reading the Guide and reading what other members have been doing but I can't get close to what others claim; going on vacation so I will contact you in a week. I changed the memory to 1/2 and got back down to 9.0...running Prime 95. I will hit you up when I get back in town.
m0rpheus Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Caffinejunkie, I just got back from vacation and could reallly use your help with tweaking my system, I have read the article but still having trouble understanding. I made the changes that you suggested with the half steppings and changing my memory to 01/02. I was told in another forum to keep the memory loose until I was stable. Should I increase my FSB Bus Frequency before increasing the voltage and in what order should I change this part is very confusing to me even after reading serveral times. CPU VID StartUp Value Startup CPU VID Control Auto CPU VID Special Control Auto LDT Voltage Control 1.20 V Chip Set Voltage Control 1.52 V DRAM Voltage Control 2.66 V Here is what I was able to run Prime 95 for 10 hours and ran it stable: FSB Bus Frequency 260MHz LDT/FSB Frequency X3.0 LDT Bus Transfer Width 16 x 16 CPU/FSB Frequency Ratio 9.0 PCI eXpress Frequency 100 MHz K8 Cool’n’Quiet Support Disable CPU VID StartUp Value Startup CPU VID Control Auto CPU VID Special Control Auto LDT Voltage Control 1.20 V Chip Set Voltage Control 1.52 V DRAM Voltage Control 2.66 V PCI eXpress Configuration 8-4-NC-8 Dual NV Chip Card Support Disable DRAM Frequency Set (Mhz) 100=RAM/FSB 01/02 Command Per Clock (CPC) Auto CAS Latency Control (Tcl) Auto RAS to CAS delay (Trcd) Auto Min RAS active time (Tras) Auto Row Precharge time (Trp) Auto Row cycle time (Trc) 07 Bus Clocks Row refresh cyc time (Trfc) Auto Row to Row delay (Trrd) 02 Bus Clocks Write recovery time (Twr) 02 Bus Clocks Write to Read delay (Twtr) 02 Bus Clocks Read to Write delay (Trwt) 03 Bus Clocks Refresh period (Tref) 3120 Cycles Odd Divisor Correct Disable DRAM Bank Interleave Enabled DQS Skew Control Auto DQS Skew Value 0 DRAM Drive Strength Auto DRAM DATA DRIVE STRENGTH Auto Max Async Latency Auto DRAM Response Time Fast(choices are Normal FAst, Slow,& Fastest) Read Preamble Time Auto Idle Cycle Limit 256 Cycles Dynamic Counter Disable R/W Queue Bypass 16x Bypass Max 07x 32 Byte Granularity Disable (4 Bursts)
Guest caffeinejunkie Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Alright what I would do is I would up the fsb in 2-5mhz intervals then boot to windows and run some form of quick stability test. Keep doing this until it doesnt pass with whatever stability test you chose then bump the voltage in the smallest increments possible until it passes then continue and repeat as necessary. As far as what to do with the voltage options you listed: CPUVID STARTUP: just leave at startup for now CPUVID Control: 3800s use between 1.35-1.4v so set this to 1.4v then increase as necessary as stated above CPUVID Control: This is increases the CPUVID by whatever percentage you choose and is very helpful when trying to get stable at the lowest voltage possible (ill elaborate on this in a second) LDT Voltage Control: Leave it at 1.2v for now because you really only need to increase with very high htt but even then it doens thelp that much Chipset Voltage: same as ldt Dram voltage: you've taken your ram out of the stability equation for now with it at 1/02 so you dont have to worry about this To get the lowest possible increase in voltages your going to have to use CPUVID with CPUVID SPECIAL. Here is an amazing chart for CPUVID/special settings: Notice it says nf3 250gb but it applies to any board with a percentage based cpuvid special option hope that helps and good luck Oh also make sure when your running prime to have it configured for dual cores. Here is an aweosme guide for setting up dual prime linkage . And I just realized that this is an immense thread hijack so morpheous well keep it to pm. Sorry to the mods
SeanDude05 Posted June 10, 2006 Posted June 10, 2006 Remember also, that one person's settings won't always work in another person's rig. Every piece of technology or equipment is different. Find your own settings, and use everyone else's as a guideline only. And it's quite easy for someone to "say" their settings are one thing, when they are really another... But good luck!
