Intermitent Lockups

Recommended Posts

First off i was having lockups and BSOD's when trying to install windows

Now ive been just having random lock ups during the instalation of Windows. well i replaced my 7800 with a x300 and it seems to happen less. i can barely install drivers. i just got sp1, Directx 9.0c, and the newest Nforce drivers installed and the issue is still present. right now im trying to get the Dual Core drivers installed but it stalled again. What could cause the conflict. Ive tried....

Different Sata HD's

Different Video Cards

Different CMOS Batteries

My First PSU was a TruePower 550watt 2.0 and that didnt have enough power for the setup. My new PSU is an enermax Precise 535watt and seems to work better.

PSU Specs:

3.3v ->32a

5v -> 32a

12v1 -> 18a

12v2 -> 18a

-12v -> .8a

5vsb -> 2.5a

12v total -> 34a

total power = 535w

If that Antec wasnt running things properly, then the unit is faulty. Its just as good, if not better, than the Enermax unit.

If you still have the Antec, try this...better yet - try it even if you dont have the Antec. Put the ram in the orange slots only. That fixed all my problems. Also, have you flashed the bios recently? If not, be sure to update the bios.

My 7800GT works great....boo on the x300.

You sound like you need to make sure your RAM is working.

Load optimized bios settings.

One stick in the top orange slot farthest from the CPU.

Use the built in Memtest which is embedded in the bios and needs to be "enabled".

If it passes (let it run for a few hours) then switch the stick with the other one and repeat.

If that passes, try both in the orange slots for dual channel and see if they pass.

If you get errors try upping the RAM voltage to 2.8 and test.

If you make it this far, then I would make sure you have the latest official bios.

I'm not sure what RAM you have, but there is a "Stable Stock Settings" forum with a bunch of types of RAM.

I wouldn't load WinXP (a disk with SP2 integrated is a good idea) till you can pass the Memtest in dual channel.

Good luck.

it could be your memory as suggested above. but it could also be your maxtor sata hdd which is known to have problems with nforce4 chipsets. i also have a maxtor and i also get BSOD's from time to time(especially under avi playback).

but this is just an educated quess it could also be your memory or something else.

edit: "spelling"
