tm1210 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I've most of my gear together for my new rig and am just waiting on my ram before I can get the ball rolling. My question is, does anyone run there system without a case? I'm planning on getting an Eclipse-62 but am short of funds at the moment. Also it might make it a bit easier to tinker around as this is my first build in a few years and I have a feeling everything might not go to plan. Just wanted to know if it will be safe to do so for a few weeks.
fraggy Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Well for my job i have to do outside the case testing quite a bit BUT i wouldnt suggest you built your PC and run it without a case.... Its takes ONE careless mistake and poof somethings gone to pcb heaven... be patient and wait or BUY a real cheap case for the time being... Lesaonar Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I know someone who runs multiple systems on a large cork bulletin board. Has been doing so for years and has not had a single problem.
tm1210 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Thanks for the replies guys. Think I might risk it. Its only for a couple of weeks until my next pay cheque. I've been searching through the forums and have seen a good few people running without cases. I'll make sure to be careful though;)
Guest Gir Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 i wouldn't worry about running without a case. alot of people do it until the make sure everything is up and running then transplant it into a case.

red930 Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 The only caveat I would tender is to make sure you have enough airflow over the parts. A cheap spot fan is more than enough to keep the air moving across the motherboard and components.

jumpman Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Also, keep pets/kids/curious people away from that setup...they tend to touch your hardware and puff! ...everthing goes to hell!
General Septem Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 I've seen people mount their computer inside a cardboard box. In fact, pics of cardboard box computers are a dime a dozen on /g/. I've also seen people use PC cases as planters.
