OCZ or G.Skill for 2G OC?

Recommended Posts

I need to hit 270-280, the higher the better, with a 2GB kit. I love OCZ and have had 2 kits in the past, but I don't know about getting their Gold kit, I've heard mixed things about them, some can't get them past the mid 250's.

I was wondering about Ballistix, but the death rate of them is quite scary... is this due to lack of active cooling?

How about the G.Skill 2BG HZ PC4000 kit? They are under 200 and I've seen them get almost all the way up to 300mhz. How is G.Skill customer support?

I have had fantastic luck with the new gold kit. Of course everyones mileage will vary. the two kits you listed are probably your best bet of getting that high. They both use the same chips as well (ucc)

My friend just ordered some Gold XTC, they all use UCCC right? I want to see how he does before I do make a decision, should be here tomorrow :D

For the price, the G.Skill can't be beat, but I'm not too sure how they are as a company and their tech support

Me too! Well, mine can only go 262. :(

What was the lowest timing you can get away with at that speed?

If you really want to reach higher MHz try running at 2T (CPC disabled).

When I experimented with that some time ago my ram, eventho it's a different brand, could go upto 293Mhz, I may experiment with it some more one of these days but have been running fine with settings in sig now for a while.

There's also an interesting sticky about the real world performance differences between running at 1T/2T.

Well, since my CPU can only go as fast as 2.62GHz, I have no reason to go any higher with the memory.
