How do I turn on dual channel mode

Recommended Posts

I just purchased 2 512MB PC3200 sticks of Super Talent PC3200 RAM. They are dual channel sticks. I was told by the merchant that I will need to turn on dual channel mode in my BIOS. How do I do this? I have looked through the BIOS and can't find any place where this option can be turned on. Thanks in advance :)

I don't believe there is a BIOS option.

On your board two of the memory slots should be close together. Put one stick in one of those slots and the other stick in the slot that is by itself.

OK, so I have 2 slots that are very close togehter. Then I have one slot that is sperate from those two. So I put one in one of the first two slots, then one in the 3rd slot? Or both in the slots that are close together?

im afraid you are out of luck with that one. 2x512Mb of any kind will not allow for reliable operation of your board. same goes for dual channel.there is an issue with CPC on these boards that myself and others have had minor to major issues with, but i urge you to try it and report your results here:

please test its stability by runing S&M test twice and run a pass of 3dmark if you can. if you notice any freezing in those tests then your SOL. if not please record your bios settings :-).

there are not many of us with these boards here so your help would be great!

i had 2X 512 in slots 1 and 3 and my dual channel was enabled. there is no bios option to turn it on or off. it should automatically turn on with the sticks in 1 and 3. you will want decent ram though because cheap ram will be unstable in dual channel mode.

To enable dual channel ram on modern motherboards you must have same size ram modules, ie; 2 x 256Mb, 2 x 512Mb, 2 x 1Gb, etc.

The ram modules have to be mounted in separate banks.

Example:

Dimm 0 and Dimm 1 is BANK 1 (sometimes marked as Dimm 1 and 2)

Dimm 2 and Dimm 3 is BANK 2 (sometimes marked as Dimm 3 and 4)

Place one module in the first slot of Bank 1 and the other module in the first slot of Bank 2 and you should be good to go... Happy Dual Channeling :)
