dcp Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Hey, I'm looking for some help with a new system I've built. Specs are in my signature. I'm stuck on the boot process. I've described everything I've done thus far below. The main problem ATM seems to be that everytime my computer starts up the CMOS has to be cleared, otherwise it will not get a display and will just sit at the monitor self test screen. Also, if I continue past the first screen it hangs on detecting arrays. I've got the CD drive hooked up to IDE 1 slot, and the floppy into the FDD slot. I've got my hdd hooked into the SATA 1 port, and my video card into the PCIE 1 slot. So far, I cleared the CMOS, started up the system and I get the splash screen and then the Phoenix Award BIOS screen stating IDE Master as CD-RW, and Internal Phy SATA 1 as my WD HDD. Under is "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded." I can press F1 to continue DEL to enter BIOS. When I hit F1 to contiue, it says press CtrlS or F4 to enter RAID utility, but if I do so using the 1-4 Sata slots it just says use the nForce RAID BIOS settings which are set to disabled at default in the BIOS, it then goes past that and hangs on "Detecting array....". This is the point where it stops. Each time I turn off the computer to try again I have to clear the CMOS, I'm pretty new to building my own machine, so, I'm wondering if this is normal. If I try to change any BIOS settings and hit restart it won't start up again AT ALL. I have to turn it off, clear CMOS and start it back up which in turn screws the BIOS settings which were unabled to be saved. Any and all help would be appreciated. Also, I only have one HDD, and I do not want to run RAID.
red930 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Use this clear CMOS... http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=24 If a short clear doesn't work try the 24 hour clear.
dcp Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Going to give it a try now, just curious but what changes when you have the clear go for longer periods of time?
red930 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Going to give it a try now, just curious but what changes when you have the clear go for longer periods of time? Success! Honestly, I've seen boards that were given up for dead come back after a 24 hour clear. Sometimes the old adage, if a little is good, a lot is better, really works. dcp Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 OMFG, I'm so friggin happy with you right now, lol. I've been trying at this god damn thing for over ten hours and the CMOS reset did it, it immediately recognized no RAID and booted up into windows perfectly. I love you man, thank you so so so so much. Btw, I left the CMOS in clear for about 5 minutes. Cheers! :shake:
