Guest st_clancy Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 So i've got my rig narrowed down pretty much, my final price after shipping and everything must be right at 1350.00 give a take, a few.. This is what I've got so far, the HS i will get from heatsinkfactory it's cheaper the xp-90 with panflow HO. Some things to note, the CPU that I have selected isn't what I will get I want an opteron, but only added the 3200+ as a place holder for the price so you can see what I'm willing to spend. http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Shoppi...asp?submit=view Here are my questions: Should I get the 2 gigs of ram and the setup just as is or get the 1gig crucial kit 2-2-2-6 timings and get a Soundcard(do people still get these).. I've never had a soundcard and I'd like to have some nice sound, if I did get a card I would get some headphones. Also if I get the 2 gig of ram then I can only afford the opty 144 for about $166, or I can get the 1 gig set of crucial and get up to the opty 148, hmm I'm wondering about performance differences, I do want to OC like mad but, I also want good performance(experience ie. sounds). I will play games like BF2 and CS:S maybe some WOW and any of the newer games coming out like COD2 AOE3... I feel like if I don't get 2 gigs of ram though my expectations of full glory gaming will fall short, keep in mind though, look at the sig of the system im uprading from. I really want to do full glory at 1248x1024 or whatever the recommeneded res of my monitor is. Other ideas where getting a 6800GS instead of the 7800GT and getting sound or the 2 gig kit of ram instead for a fair trade... I hate these choices... Guest st_clancy Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Also, is there anyone that can recomend a sound card around $50 that doesn't seem to have any problems(or at least a fix with drives), I've seen some issues with the audigy 2 value for about 50 dollars at the egg, now some people just love it and others have driver issues(or is it just they don't know how to fix it?)
