Want help for no boot problem

Recommended Posts

my rig works well till a couple of week, it suddenly shut down while I have a rest. the only operation I have done before the trouble is that I only update a windows pack online and had set restart machine later. when I found the trouble, I try to clear CMOS and set safe boot mode on motherboard but only standby power led and Dram power led are on and both cpu, power and case pan doesn't spin, no beep.

Could anybody help me how to diagnose the specific trouble inside my rig?

thank you very much!

Since Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W has something like a modular cable design and using two 12V rails (I don't know how those cables on your PSU works). Therefore is there a possibility that one rail is overloaded?

Even though I'm very satisfied with my Hiper I don't like that there's four 12V connections, but there's no way (if not opening it up and loose waranty) I can determine which ones belongs to what rail (I'll try to annoy Hiper enough untill they provide this part of the specification). So basically I've to just use everyone in an attempt to spread the load.

Maybe this could be of some help.

If there are four 12V rails the "yellow" wires will be marked differently or even be different colors.

On a standard ATX 12V 2.X PSU, the 12V for the CPU power will have a black stripe on the Yellow conductor for this rail. The rest of the Yellow 12V conductors are the other rail.

Thanks ExRoadie! I gone through the specification ones (alright a whole lot of times...) more, and I think I've figured it out now. Looks like I really got it wrong... but since everything is hooked up correctly so what. Learned something new, and tomorrow I hope I'll do the same...

I'm currently stuck in the same problem, and this is a brand new build. I booted a few times and it was fine, I got as far as puting the OS on one drive. Then when I got the second drive installed, I tried to install a floppy drive to install the raid drivers, and it wouldn't come on. Took off the floppy and it turn back on fine, install the floppy back and it wouldn't turn on again. Afterwards, I took off the floppy, tried to turn it back on and now it not turning on at all no matter what I have installed. All I get is a standby and a DRAM LED lit when there's power applied. Its really frustrating and disappointing.

I've tried putting the power supply in a 20 pin mobo and that booted up fine, so its leading me to believe that the PS is fine. But I'm not 100% confident because its a 20 pin board and not 24 pin. I've tried the CMOS reset a few time for various lengths of time and the most was 30 minutes, and that still didn't work. I am now going for the 24hrs....I hope I don't have to RMA anything, it would be a pain and a bigger disappointment.

specs:

DFI LANPARTY ULTRA-D

AMD X2 3800+

OCZ PC3200 1024MB Platinum Ed

EVGA 7800 GT CO 256MB

Antec SP-500

After letting the CMOS clear for about 23 hours, I tried it again and it WORKS!!! I followed the steps in the link that's provided in post #2. Everything came back normal and it looks like I'm in business again. I guess my word of advice to everyone that's having a similar problem is be patience or it will get you more frustrated. Glad I didn't have to RMA anything.

Glad you're back up and running.

Your results are exactly why we recommend that if a short clear doesn't get it, try the 24 hour clear. We've gotten excellent results with this procedure.
