Grimmwor Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Ok guys, I have had this machine built for several months now. It runs great, never have any problems at all. But... I want to overclock my FX-55 to 2800Mhz. On my old ASUS A8N-E Deluxe I was able to overclock this same cpu to 2800 by upping the multiplier to 14. It was completely stable, using Corsair XMS memory, 4x512mb of PC3200. Now, I can still overclock and it seems to work just as well (please see my sig for mem and maniboard I am using). I can run Prime95 for hours with no errors. I can run memtest without any errors, until test 7, then I start getting tons of errors. Part of me considers the Prime95 results and says "what am I worried about, I'm good to go". But I just can't forget about those Memtest errors. I have tried the memtest built into the bios as well as the memtest on Tmod's bios cd. Both produce same results, no errors until test 7, then it's red everywhere! So what's up? Please be nice
Guest SaLadin_SS Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Grim How are you From my understanding your not going to be able to run all four mem slots at those timming and 1T(i could be wrong). Im sure these dudes are going to direct you to a link in the forum for over clocking and mem guids........lol but they'll wanna know your mem voltage? Have you tried to losen the timming slightly? or removing two of the four stick at your current timmings and see if it still getting error in memtest? Also im sure there going to be courious how many hours it is prime stable? The magick number seem to be 24hrs for generally accepted successful over clock? I know being able to go north on the Muti takes the stress of the mem in O/C but with all four slots holding sticks in them, im almost sure the issue is related to the in conjunction with the timming and voltage settings Im gonna go ahead and beat them to the links though so if some one post they have to help you with more then directing you to them (the links) Ps. Is that FX 55 130nm the claw hammer and not sandy core? http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20823 http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27875 http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31584
Grimmwor Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Yep, it's the Clawhammer. I am running 2.8v on my memory. I have not tried removing two of the memory modules and running the test; that is something to try. I also have not tried loosening the timing on the memory, I will try that also. I have tried upping the voltage and that didn't seem to make a difference, still had the same results. I tried 3.2v, if I remember correctly. I will take a look at the links. Thanks! You know that Corsair memory that you have in your machine? That is the memory that used to be in my machine; they are THE EXACT same ones (you bought them from me; do you remember?). I never had any problems overclocking with them and my ASUS A8N-E (and yes, I did have 4 sticks, I sold two to you and two some other guy). I know people are not too crazy about that stuff around these forums, but I'm sorry, that stuff is RAD. I ran them at 2.7v and 2-2-2-5 timings. Guest SaLadin_SS Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 oh ya i remember i had them at 280 x 9 1to1 1t 2.5446 or 2.5336 i cant remember but they refussed to error. I didnt see any benefit when i benched 3D apps, only data apps. So i went back down and just tighned the timming back up. i posted about the matter but got very little imput. im curious to see what happens when you only run two sticks

Grimmwor Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Sorry I didn't post back. So far I have tried removing two memory modules; I had better luck this way. But I've put them back now, I don't want to overclock that bad. I will try to post an update when I've had time to experiment a bit more. Thanks for your help! ICON57 Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 set cpc to disable in bios, and lossen your timings, maybe try 2.9 volts on the ram. you might have to test each stick one at a time to verify if all are ok. just my thoughts...
