G.SKILL Extreme Series (2 x 1GB) Overclocking

Hey guys, I know that a lot of you out there got recently G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ). I was wondering how much did you manage to squeze out of them. So far I got them up to 280MHz PC4500, how abuot you?

Mine's running fine at 260MHz. Timings in signature.

I just got mine, and currently trying to find the highest speed using micro tests (looping Memtest on test #5 at for at least 10 passes, then moving on).

 

I am literally in the middle of the test while posting this. i'm on 290 MHz @ 2.66v (the Expert board defaults to this voltage) at 3-4-4-8.

 

I am shooting for 300 at a decent voltage, but will probably end up setting it slower so I can do 1:1 with my x2 3800+ (so far, it seems like the average high OC for that CPU is around 2.7 GHz, so I will run the memory at 270 MHz).

 

 

 

So far, I am just testing the memory - the CPU is set to a 4x multiplier (very low). I will be testing how far I can push the CPU once I know the limitations of the memory (which seems to have a very high threshold of pain, so I'm not even going to worry about the memory being the bottleneck, lol).

 

These Samsung ICs rock! And thanks to G.Skill for making them a little more affordable than the other botique memory brands.

 

edit: 17 passes no errors, ... so moved on to 300 Mhz @ 2.66v and passed 2x on test #5. 0_o

 

At this point, I'm not going to go any further if it goes through 10 passes error free. I'll just run the full test and call it a night. If it passes at 300 Mhz, I'll be happy to know that the G.Skill won't limit me on my CPU OC. No way I can get the Manchester 3800+ to 3GHz (1:1 for 10x 300).

 

EDIT 2: I was still up, so I decided to experiment further. I got it up to 320 MHz at 2.66v, and now I'm running the FULL memtest86 tests as I doze off to sleep.

 

I am very happy with this memory and motherboard. Thanks again to everyone (espcially the knowledgable DFI techs/mods here - Sharp especially and Angry_Games - even though we didn't start off on a good note).

 

PS: Love the way Expert just bounces back (reboots) if something is wrong (fsb/memory set too high, etc) - makes for a very quick OC expermentation process.

320 MHz ! Great job overclocking man, what about the memory temps because mine seem to heat up quite a bit, unfortunetaly cant run them lower than 2.8v, crashes othrewise

I can’t get mine past 259MHz what timings are you using???

I too would like to see what settings your using. I'm trying to get mine to 275 but am having trouble over 260.

What may help a lot is switching to 2T, I couldnt go over 250 with 1T so I changed it to 2T and have 280MHz rockin

Here are some of my memory settings. On my board these settings are stable to 280. I haven't tried any higher.

This is quite frustrating. I have the memory on all the most stable settings and it still can't go to 275. I've tried everything I can think of, but every combination gets errors in memtest at test 5 or sometimes 4. Am I going to have to go less than 1:1?

 

I just thought of something while writing this...I could try to physicaly switch the memory....I heard that can help sometimes. I'll go try that.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My timings are 3-4-4-8, and actually the overnight full test an failed. I tried to turn the voltage up to 2.71v and left it. I got my webcam pointed at my screen (using my home server to upload), and I saw that it failed that test too (I am out of town).

 

when I get back, I think I will lower it to 310 MHz and try the full test.

 

EDIT: I wanted to add that I am on CMD T1 all this time. I may loosen this up and try again at that ultra high clock rate
