New system...

Recommended Posts

I have a few questions about the DFI nF4 Expert. I recently purchased one and was wondering if the newer boards still had that really ugly "cut trace". I recently heard about it at techpowerup after ordering it, and it really doesn't bother me, but was wondering if that may have been fixed by now.

Also, I've heard rumours about video cards being long enough to interfere with teh chipset fan. Is that the case or will most geForce 7's fit fine? I figured they would, but I wanted to verify. Also, I wanted to know if Opterons will boot far enough on first boot to get the bios updated...

I got mine form newegg 2 weeks ago and no cut trace (rev AD0). I just put in my two 7800gts and water blocks lastnight, they fit right over the chipset fan no problem.

Little tip: On the test boot it would not get past the lanparty screen. Simple clear CMOS and I was up and running. Also check your ram timings. My G.Skills stock are 3-4-4-8 but the board set them to 3-3-3-7 no errors though :)

I received my DFI Expert from Newegg 2 weeks ago and it had no sign of the cut trace like the first run of boards . I also have an EVGA 7800GT video card.

It does go OVER the chipset fan, but just clears it. The fan housing is just a little lower than the top of the socket the card fits into. Don't know about the OPTY....

I had no problems booting into BIOS with my 4000 Sandy.

Rott3n, do you know if Opties boot first try? Also, does the buzzing bug happen frequently anymore? Also, I got a good deal on my Opti 165 at monarch (270$), but I had to buy my mobo there too. I hope mine is the newer rev... I'd hate to have that ugly cut trace. :(

No it did not boot first time. I just cleared the cmos and that fixed it. I also set the ram to 2.7 first thing to avoid problems when installing windows. No buzzing here :).

ROck on. I hope your build goes well. I still haven't bought my video card. Did you get teh copper cooler gt's? Does yours get teh Quake 4 loving that the other GT's get?

Problem is... i didn't heard the buzzing.. until i put my cpu in, and turned the pc on.

By the stage, the cpu was dead.

When i plugged in all three psu connectors, the light came on and there was no buzz.

How come DFI isn't covering these cpu killers? Also... my system was purchased from monarch. Mine shouldn't kill CPU's and if it does... well, monarch is responsible (they test before shipping).
