BullUSMC Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I'm gonna be upgrading to dual core soon and I've narrowed it down to these two CPU's. I will be pairing it with the DFI NF3 Ultra D and the OCZ memory in my sig. I will be wanting to get around 500mhz OC on air out of it. I have some questions. Any problems OCing with Opteron 170 and four sticks of memory? From what Ive read on hardware forums and DFIstreet the 4400 doesent OC that well. What are peoples experiences OCing the 170 on the DFI NF4 Ultra D? I may consider pairing one of these CPU's with the DFI Expert board. I've read that the Expert board has some new technology that makes it less hot. Does this board OC any better than than the Ultra D? Anything else anyone can tell me about these CPU's or anything else I should know would help me decide. Thanks.
[email protected] Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I'd go for the Opteron (I wonder why?). The're known for their high overclockability (and a little pimp-factor  ). Although some tend to overclock better than the other. I know I haven't got the best stepping in the world for overclocking, but I got a +600 mhz overclock with ease! And with some better ram, i'll see how far she goes...
Guest nomad Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 My 4400+ is rocking along. With 1.65v DMM tested I can squeeze 2849Mhz out of it, at 1.61 I can get 2.805Mhz. I Usually have it at 2805Mhz just to prolong the life. Has a fairly strong memcontroller, but not fantastic. I am pretty happy with it, but the Opterons seem to be doing very well, but like everything else you are at the mercy of luck. Hope you get a good one!! palehorse Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I'll take "Overclocking the Opty 170 beyond FX60 specs" for the win Alex!
