darknessgfx Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Hey. Today I installed my system with the DFI Ultra-D to replace my dead Abit AN8 ... worked fine. Now I have installed the system (specs in the signature) and it's unstable, I'm getting Bluescreens. I didn't want to re-use the old windows, so I just booted up for a quick check to see if Speedfan can find sensors and such. Then I rebooted and started the installation. I'm using Win XP x64 Edition. During the installation I had bluescreens several times (during the 'installing devices' part). Once I had one about th BIOS not being full ACPI capable, once it was something about data or system corruption and then some others ... I tried several things, move the RAM from the yellow to the orange lots, set the Errata opton 9x to auto (123 is auto per default) and put the DVD drive and the Maxtor PATA drive on different cables. Windows installed but I still have problems. After it's first boot when it says 'applying system settings' it restarted. After the reboot I logged in and it reported a serious error. I installed chipset and grahpics drivers, rebooted and while I was logging in I had a short freeze followed by a bluescreen. Event manager says Error code 0000000000000109, parameter1 a3a03a386041357b, parameter2 b3b746beb2bddc38, parameter3 fffff800010e7ddb, parameter4 0000000000000001. Type - Error Source - System Error Category - (102) Event ID - 1003 Before I tried to install the system, I tried the Memtest feature. Didn't do a full scan but up to test 6 (almost completed) no errors... I'd need some input here, kinda sucks. Thanks. Chris
hmf Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Well..you haven't eliminated your ram as the problem if you only ran part of memtest. Any errors in installing windows can lead to potential errors down the road. Since nothing has gone smoothly for you you have to start testing components. Run memtest with at least 8 passes. I know it takes awhile but there are no shortcuts when troubleshooting...unless you are lucky.
darknessgfx Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Well, seems like I'll have to try ... I had it running quite okay for two days, now it's .ing up again. *angry*
lowboy Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Taking short cuts and using 400W PSU will bite you in the a...s Make sure your PSU has atleast 26A on 12V rail.
darknessgfx Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Well, the 400W PSU worked perfectly with the Abit AN8. So that is most definately not the problem. Plus, weak PSUs cause restarts - no bluescreens. Alright, I have tested the memory for several hours with the integrated Memtest - nothing, not a single error. Alright... * Installed the Board etc, booted the old Windows (XP x64) * Didn't use it for too long, no problems though * Formated, installed WinXP x64 -> Bluescreens (3 times) during installation ('installing devices' part). -> Once the device check / install is done, the rest of the installation finishes up just fine -> After installation I had several lockups with bluescreens (couldn't read, gone too fast) *Formatted, installed WinXP 32 bit -> Bluescreens during installation (installing devices again) -> Same as before. After some tries it installed - once the device thing was passed -> Didn't use it * Formated again, Win XP x64 -> Seemed stable for about a day -> Nope, again hangups and bluescreens * Formated, installed Win XP x64 on ANOTHER HDD - the 120GB PATA Maxtor this time. Just to make sure. -> Had a bluescreen again. Alrighty ... the bluescreens are not reproducable, at least I don't know how to. Spontanous ... I can't remember all of the messages, but some of the last bluescreens had something to do with NV Drivers. Once Display, once Sound. That was with the second but last x64. Now, the last bluescreen was something else again. Ermm ... Heeeeellllp?!

I am just doing assumptions based on what I have experienced ... I am terribly sorry for that... All I did was point out, that this PSU handled exactly the same system with a different Mainboard just fine ... which makes me think it's probably not the problem. Now if you would tell me what the hell I did to offend you?! I can more or less reproduce hangups in CSS now btw. Dual Prime95 is no problem, CSS hans up after a few minutes - repeating sound an all. red930 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 What lowboy is trying to tell you is this... See here... http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...75&postcount=13 then here... http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10854 There is very little wiggle room when using DFI motherboards. When was the last time you had a motherboard with four power connectors? We see this all the time and really do know what we're talking about. darknessgfx Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Didn't want to sound any rude, an instable workstation with nights spent without any solution just mildly piss me off. Sorry if I missbehaved a little. Alright, the problems seems to be spotted. Although Memtest didn't bring any errors, Goldmemory did. Yay ... I applied some very safe settigns, increased the voltage ... Now Goldmemory errors now. *crosses fingers*
