MiGBane Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Hey guys, great forum here. As you can see from my signature, I'm ready to upgrade. Have been looking seriously at the DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR but noticed more than one version availabe on Newegg. One is labelled "LANParty nF4 SLI-DR" and the other "LANParty UT nF4 SLI-DR". What's the difference? There is $30 diff in the price but no apparent differences in the feature sets. One an older revision? BTW, will be pairing with an Athlon 64 X2 4800+, 1GB of OCZ Gold PC3200 and an XFX GeForce 7800GTX (looking to SLI farther down the road). Another dumb question. I was reading a review for the ASUS A8N32 on Anandtech, and they showed the LP SLI-DR keeping pace with an identically equipped A8N32 on almost every graphics test. What gives? Shouldn't the A8N32 trounce the LP due to having both cards running at full 16x ??? The article is here . Scroll down to the 3D Mark 05 tests. Any ideas? Does the GTX or CPU maybe not max out the 8x PCIe bandwidth? Thanks in advance!
kukulcan Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Both boards are the same. The nF4 SLI-DR version comes with a load of extras like a carrying strap, frontx drivebay unit and lots of glow in the dark thingys. The UT version doesn't come with these items. I don't believe that any cards currently use the full 16x bandwidth, so there probably won't be much difference between 2 x 8x and 2 x 16x for a while
Confined Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Well the UT does have glow in the dark thingys...but like kukulcan said, none of the other crap.

MiGBane Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Thanks guys. Uplink, did you have any problems fitting the GTX with the chipset HSF clearance? It looks like it will be too close for comfort.
velvetsteele Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Migbane, You most likely will clear the stock cooler, but you should look at replacing the stock NB cooler with something passive and put a fan nearby as the stock cooler is total junk and does not cool well anyway.
