adam17 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 i just got a new case for my bday and i spent last night putting it together. its the Thermaltake Xaser case (i doubt it makes a difference). anyway, i was able to get everything transfered to the new case and it booted up perfectly. i was able to get into windows and play around for the rest of the night. when i got up this morning all of the fans were still on. i took a look at the LEDs on the board and saw that all 4 were on. i turned it off, and rebooted the machine several times. i even unplugged everything and pulled the mobo out. nothing looks to be burned or shorted (that i can see visibly). i even remounted my cpu fan which is a thermaltake (i think its called the tornado. its the massive heat piped 120mm heatsink and fan). anyway after trying all of that the 4 LEDs are as far as the POST goes. any suggestions?!? PLEASE HELP!! -adam
adam17 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 ok ive been looking around and i decided to try the clear cmos trick. i changed the position of the jumper and pushed the power button on the board to clear the capacitors. normally the fans are supposed to just twitch. right now they turn on full blast and dont stop. i let the machine run for about a minute. keep in mind the cmos clear jumper is set in the clear position. im starting to think my cpu is burned out. i dont see how it could possibly be burned out. a few days ago i did start overclocking it. it never got above 38C even while playing games. i did push the voltage up a click. i think i bumped it up 1/10th of a volt. i wish i could tell you the exact details about my rig and the overclocking, but i cant remember many of the specs. any other ideas? no_nonsense4857 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Try out ExRoadie's method of clearing CMOS and pressing INSERT key and starting the comp. Hope it works. Make sure you have all the 4 power inputs fed on the mobo.
simosbiz Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I hope you dont use any MAXTOR DRIVES. I just got an email from MAXTOR that NF4 chipset DOES NOT SUPPORT Maxtor drives. I have three 300GB SATAII 16MB Buffer and I am forced to put them on SilImage controller.I bought a WD 120GBSATAII to put on NVIDIA Controller and works fine. I ve lost 2 weeks changing and testinh any removable part of my PC cause it kept freezing in random moments during reboot or later and it was all because of Maxtor that I wanted to use for system. Greetings from Greece Simos Email from MAXTOR Follows: Dear Simos, Nforce 4 chip set does not support SATA II 300 drive, set SATA 150 jumper may work around this issue. Let me know if you have any further problem. Best regards, Meiling Maxtor Technical Support

THunDA Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Is this the EXACT way you cleared the cmos.. ? (without missing a SINGLE step) http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.p...04&postcount=24 I would reseat the cpu and while its out inspect it for any damage like bent or broken pins.. adam17 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 every single step. i had to stop when i turned the system on and there was no beeping. the system was on for a minute or so and stil no beeping. i called AMD about the problem and inquired about RMAing it. i told them which board i had and she said that she had dealt with 3 of the exact same boards and the same problems. amd does not recommend dfi so im about to head out and buy a new mobo. apparently dfi boards freak out with X2s after a while. im heading to frys right now to get the http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4537347?s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4470186?s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG so much for dfi being great. ill tell u guys what happens btw THunDA i took the proc out several times looking for bent pins and possible dust infestations. i didnt find anything and it still didnt help.
