Some helpful tips please for a newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, new to this forum.

Just purchased this mobo as you can see in my sig and i was wondering if you kind people could give me some hints and tips how to get this mobo and peripherals up and running.

What things to look out for whilst starting it up for the first time, configuring it etc.

And whilst remembering it,

I have third OCZ mem from my old mobo, same as the others,.

Is it possible to run this mobo with 3 slot filled, i will get one more but until then, you think it is possible to run 3X OCZ 512 PC3200?

Kind Regards

Thomas

Use 1, 2 or 4 memory modules, so that means: 1 stick, 2 sticks or 4 sticks.

Orange memory slots = for 2 sticks, Yellow ones when you are going to use 4 sticks of memory.

Best is to flash to a beta BIOS than the original one: RDXDC12 or RDXDC23 from this link:

http://us.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bios..._FLAG=B&SITE=US

If you are new to A64 and to overclocking them as well, be prepared for ALOT of trial and error.

Don't set the HT bus more than 1000Mhz.. example:

CPU has 200Mhz HTT (FSB)

LDT Multi is standard 5x

this gives you a HTT busspeed of 1000Mhz.

By overclocking, when you are upping the CPU "FSB" the HTT Busspeed goes up to by whatever the LDT multi is set. Keep this as close to 1000Mhz as possible. Anything over 1000Mhz can cause instability.

Try to run tighter RAM timings too, 2.5-4-4-8 is really bad for PC3200.

Thanks for your reply Cordite.

Yes i am new to Athlon 64`s so i wont be doing any OC until i get to know my way around this motherboard and its bios learning what all the settings are for.

Just want it up and running and take it from there.

When you say, Try to run tighter RAM timings too, 2.5-4-4-8 is really bad for PC3200.

2,5-4-4-8 is the timing printed of my RAM, what would you suggest i set the timing to ?.

Kind Regards

Thomas

Guest Lucky

Are those UTT 2.5-4-4-8 modules(vvx)? Do they run 2-3-2-6 1T 200 with 2.8v?

Also set your drive strenght to 3, 5 or 7 for 2 dimms.
