What brand of ram and how much?

I'm not sure how much of my system is in my profile so i'll state it here:

Dfi lanparty nf4 ultra-d

1gig Ultra Overclocking ram (2x512 pc3200)

PNY geforce 7800gt video card

amd64 3500 venice processor

450watt psu in xion case

thermaltake cooling and HS

200gig WD hard drive

Basicly my dilemma is if I should buy another gig of the Ultra ram or move to another brand.... I was debating going to 3gigs but i'm not sure if that would be overkill or not?

My ram timings now are 2.5-3-3-8... runs stable at 240fsb and multi x11... around 2.64ghz.....

idle temps at 240fsb and 1.48v for processor about 34c, under load around 45c...

Main reason for the ram upgrade is for battlefield 2 and other upcoming games I might get interested in.... (always need a good reason to build and overclock a computer.... but behind it all, it's just a fun hobbie)

If it's not broken, UPGRADE anyway

wow here I am double posting agian.... but...... Somewhere I read that the amd64 doesn't do well with 4gig of ram....

also, would 4gig even help that much???

also... another quick question someone reading this post might have a suggestion.... from my specs, what should I upgrade after the ram?? I was debating upgrading the hard drives and maybe to a LCD monitor.... and possibly liquid cooling...

Theres no point in 4 gigs, no programs even get close to using 4 gigs of ram and even if your doing insane multitasking its limited by the cpu. Id stick with 2. And your hard drive is fine, I think i have the same one. If your doing gaming, dont worry abou t the hard drive. unless you want more space...

if your temps are low no need for water cooling unless u just must have cooler temps, it wont make that much of a difference compared to good air cooling, unless you get the expensive water cooling kits. The only reason to switch from air in my opinion is if you want less noise or insane overclocks with a phase-change which is what i want but its like $800 lol.

Ya go for an lcd flat panel, get one with < 12 ms response time and you wont see ghosting (a step up from being blurry)

I believe 2 gigs of Ram is plenty for anything out there. Only thing I would use 4 gigs in is a server. The trouble it would take to get 4 gigs running more than out-weighs the gain in performance.

You would see a pretty nice increase in just about everything moving into a RAID 0 array to go along with the 2 gigs of Ram.

Next in line I would upgrade my sound to a nice card and 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set

Hey CPDMF what difference does it make in gaming to have a drive in RAID 0? Besides faster map loads there really isnt any better gameplay is there? Cause with 2 gigs of ram you already have everything paged right?

I wouldnt go for the fx-57, its very expensive and you could get a good dual core opty to do those speeds so id get an opteron instead.

About the only times I see a real difference is in loading and when I first enter a map I can run and gun instantly instead of lagging across the screen for 3 seconds getting dropped at will. Other than that without RAID I don't notice anything. When I'm finished gaming it takes quite abit off the time it takes to move on to other tasks. Load times and unload times are somewhat important to me.

I don't think my sound needs any upgrading ;) ;).....

I have around 1300watts... this mobo came with 7.1 discrete out *an rca for each channel*

However, i've seen some onkyo and bose systems that have been pretty tempting, but for around 2500$ i think i'll stick with upgrading the computer... maybe raid.... BUT... i've heard that running raid doesn't help that much in reality? Has it been proven by any benchmarking yet?
