divinemisfire Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Due to some restrictions on noise at home, I'll have to settle on something other than normal speaker setup for my rig. Would love to get a logitech Z5500 or the new wireless ones but i just can't. Sony has a good deal here(Malaysia) for MDR-DS4000. Its an infrared digital wireless home theatre headphones. It got good reviews here.. However, theres only one user review there and hes having problems using it with his pc. ive been wondering wether anyone here had any experience with it and could share ur experience here with me and others. My concerns are:- 1) Do i need to get a better sound card than the onboard sound ? 2) Wether it works at all with any sound card using digital spdif maybe ? 3) Will it be better than the 'cinesurround' mode by nVidia ? I have no problems with my wired sony MDR-V600 watching dvd's using the 'cinesurround' but im looking for something better. Anybody ? I believe the nvidia onboard sound may be able to produce pure digital sound in 5.1 but I'm not sure about the nf4 but I know the nf2 one was able to. But these headphones can only take optical and regular stereo anolog so you'd need to do something to be able to connect that to your onboard sound. Any sound card with digital out will beable to output 5.1 digital in movies by setting spdif out in the application, but to beable to have digital 5.1 in regular apps and games you need to have a soundcard that can turn stuff into dolby digital so the reciever can understand it (in this case the headphones) which I believe the nvidia onboard sound can do. But the audigy/x-fi can't do that and you will get plain stereo through the digital input except with dvd's when you set spdif out in the application. But the x-fi can make pretty good surround sound through regular stereo headphones. I believe the phones are intended mainly for home theaters or else it would have included 5.1 anolog inputs but that would be stupid because then it would have to convert it to digital so it can send it to the headphones and make it cost more. But if you can get it connected to your onboard sound through spdif and you have the option to select 5.1 dolby digital live in your nvidia sound options then you would get digital 5.1 in games and it would be cool . Thanx for replying trevor, ... not so sure what u meant by 'pure 5.1'. I thought NF4 can do that .. i never tried it cos i never(and not going to) have any set of those speakers. Thats what i thought .... did u read the user review ? .... not sure bout his pc setup so i cant tell. The base of the headphones itself comes with its own decoders .. so thats where the confusion comes in(at least for me). I must say that the 'cinesurround mode' does sounds good enuff for me, but my current mdr-v600 is already 13 years old so i think i deserve one for my dvd watching session. I still love the mdr-v600 for my music listening. So basically theres no spdif for all the x-fi range ? I thought thats only for the 'extreme music' range ? Sorry for the delay(Mom caceled internet:shake: ). They are the same the only difference are the connectors the optical uses light to transfer the data and the other one is just a regular coaxial cable that is used for alot of stuff, meaning you can use the cable that connects your dvd player to the tv with it they both work the same.
