killxswitch Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Hi all, it's been a while since I posted. I have a quick question. Santa was awesome enough to buy me a 250gb sata 2 hdd for Christmas. I'm sitting here while it formats. But it only recognizes a little more than 238gb of my drive. Is this a reasonable amount of missing storage space to expect with a drive of this size? In the past the largest hdd i've had was 80gb, so I have no frame of reference. Thanks in advance.

hmf Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Hard Drives are measured in Windows using binary system. A Gb is 1,073,741,824 bytes. Hdd makers use 1,000,000,0000 bytes for a Gb thus the discrepancy.
