[RESOLVED] Random shutdown Optical Drive corrupting OS installation

Recommended Posts

Update: the NEC did it. So now it's just to RMA the Benq, which seems to be capable of corrupting and mess the system up totaly. Maybe that's the one device which becouse of some electrical problem coused the shutdowns?

So - ok, this is not the right thread I know but since it belongs to my experienced problems I'll hope the moderators will tolerate it - what CD/DVD - RW device would you recommend?

If an installation gets corrupted by no obvious reason, the problem might be an optical device; symptoms like missing files or strangely behaving OS.

In my case the optical device obviously had another manufacturing fault also, since it affected the electrical current as well, or maybe the poor performance was a result of this.

The lesson is: sometimes it might be a good option to test another optical device before digging to deep or use too much time troubleshooting other hardware.
